Med Order Clarification

  1. How would you interpret this order:

    Medication: Prilosec
    Dose: 20 mgs
    Amount: 2 tabs

Two 20mg tabs [40 mgs total]? Or 20mg total dosage [two 10mg tabs]?

I would interpret the "2 tabs" as being irrelevant to the dose, but if that is actually how the order is written by the Physician then I would interpret it as: this physician is an idiot.

Yes, there needs to be an order clarification for this.

Yeah, order clarification needed. But i think it's doubtful the physician is an idiot. They probably just made a mistake. We all need to be on the lookout for things like this, and help each other out. It's one thing if its a pattern, but I give my colleagues the benefit of the doubt when I see a mistake/omission like that!

I am glad the radiologist called to clarify when I ordered a pelvic ultrasound to evaluate a left breast mass, for example Although they did probably make fun of me when they got that order lol.

Doesn't look like any order I've ever seen. Not even on July 1.
