Anyone applying to University of South Alabama online MSN-FNP Program for summer or fall 2011?

No problem. I will.

Hey guys. Sorry to break up your chat. I got into the BSN-DNP ENP for the fall. I still have questions before choosing a school. I have only heard bad things about South so far. What made you guys decide South? Are they accredited for DNP yet? Thanks.

For me, I chose South because it is close by. I considered UAB too, but online their class schedule that is posted is much faster paced than South.

My hubsband went to South for Medicine and had an excellent education. I completed one yr of their masters program 15 yrs ago and was happy with the quality of education, it was actual classroom time back then. The instructors were professional and had high expectations, yet were reasonable.

I also worked for South as a nurse manager. They were the only hospital that I've worked for that allowed adequate staffing for patient care. I went over budget most yrs due to staffing and was never reprimanded. I see that as a sign that patient care comes first for them, and that is important to me. That was many yrs ago, I hope they are still like that.

Hello,

I was accepted into the FNP Summer 2011 program at USA!!!! Congratulations to all of you. I'd like to be a part of your discussions or groups if you have one. I am really nervous about online classes because group study was what got me through my BSN. Something about talking it out. Are any of you living in Oregon or Washington. haha probably not. I look forward to this adventure!!!

p.s. This is my first post so as soon as I get enough I will send my email. I'm on night shift so that shouldn't take very long ;)

Welcome Doug! I'm starting Summer 2011 and am in Alabama. I think quite a few of us are spread out. I think there is some type of forum where we can post when we actually start school, maybe that will be a way we can help each other.

For everyone else, the summer booklist is up on the 2011 student page.

Hello and CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

I got accepted into the MSN Nurse Administration program(summer 2011) at USA!!I'm very nervous. Eventhough we won't be in the same program, I will still like to chat and get opinions on certain courses or teachers. I think some of the courses are the same for the Nurse Practitioner program and the Nurse Administration program. Congrats again and LET'S STUDY HARD AND ADD ANOTHER DIPLOMA TO OUR PROFILE!!!:)

Hello Again,

So for health care policy this summer has anyone purchased the text book yet? Will it be the 6th edition? Where did you decide to get it from?

I got the 6th edition from Amazon. It is a new text with 18 additional chapters, so I don't think an older version will work, unfortunately there weren't many used that I could find.

I have not purchased the text book, I will after I register for class on the 9th.

Congratulations!!! I got accepted to the same program. Message me if you want to swap contact info.

Hey 808 Medic-

I just applied to the USA ENP program for spring 2012. I have seen several posts on here from you and just had a few questions. I would love to hear what you think of the program so far as well as any suggestions you may have. I can't private message yet, but my email is M.Urquhart.RN@gmail.com, if you have a chance to shoot me an email I would love pick your brain a little!

First of all-----good luck with your application!!!!

I have been very pleased with the program so far. I have only completed one semester and just started my second, but I do not have any complaints. My instructor this summer was great. She seemed fair, responded quickly to questions, clearly laid out the expectations at the beginning og the semester, and provided exellent feedback on papers/assignments.

So far this semester (Theory and Adv Patho) the instructor have communicated well and laid out a reasonable (but busy) list of assignments.

The best advice I have at this time for anyone in the program is: 1) CLOSELY follow the course syllabus, 2) CLOSELY follow the grading rubric for each assigment, and 3) ASK QUESTIONS if you are unsure of an assignment!!

I had a great group of classmated this summer and this semester looks to be just as good...if not better.

I will send you an email if you have anymore questions.
