Hello everyone!

I would like to know if anyone has any information about the RN to BSN program at the University of Phoenix. They have an online program and I am very interested in attending. Has anyone had a good experience or a bad experience with them? Do you actually learn for the money you have to pay?? I would appreciate any information. Thank you!

Well, I guess no one here has been to university of phoenix. Thanks anyway!

I have attended UOP but not for nursing.

I will tell you if you have the dedication for short sessions, you will do fine. All my courses were 5 weeks long. Believe me when I tell you, you don't want to get one day behind. They move very quickly but if the course happens to be less than enjoyable, not to worry it will be over before you know it! There programs from my experience have been very very well organized and everything is ready for returning students a few days before the class begins providing time for printing, and getting organized.

Give them a call, you've got nothing to loose.

See my post to Kellie in this forum. I don't have any specifics on BSN program, only MSN.

I just found this thread and although it is old, maybe I can give you some info on UoP. I am a BSN student with UoP now and love it. You can see some of my other posts on the topic. UoP offers an excellent learning opportunity for RN's interested in earning their BSN or MSN. It is worth looking into. I have several courses left, but because they are 5 weeks in length, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for graduation. It is accredited by NLN and the entire program is online.

Good luck.:D

I am using UOP right now. It is wonderful!!!!!! They have a tech support system and everything is spelled out for you. I would highly recomend this way of education. I have learned not only nursing ,but also computer programs and how to work them.

Hi Helen .... how long have you been attending UoP? Are you currently in a class? I just finished Health and Disease Management (whew ... that was a rough one!) and made it through. I wonder if we have been in classes together.

I love UoP and would not want to go back to the traditional ground college, but I am not thrilled with the learning team concept. My last LT was terrible. This was the first time that I had a poor learning team. In my other classes, the LT were great and we accomplished great things together, but this last class fried my last nerve when the learning team would not come together on our assignments. I finally had to finish the project myself and email it to the professor with an statement that no one helped. She already knew there were problems.

Overall, UoP is the best. When do you graduate and are you going on for your MSN? Great to see other UoP BSN students on this forum.

Thank you so much for replying about UOP. I was about to give up. I was getting scared because I thought no one knew anything about UOP. I plan to start 26 Feb 04. WHEW!!!!!!! I feel so much better.

RNPATL what exactly is the learning team concept? Is it something like doing a group project in a traditional college? If so, I have not had that great of a time with group projects. Like you mentioned, not everyone participates like they should.

Thank you so much!!! I feel as though I have made the right decision for me!!:)

First of all, you are welcome, I think you have made a great decision too.

Learning teams are assigned by your instructor during the first week of class. The teams consist generally of two groups of students with about 3 to 4 students per group. Each week, the LT has an assigned project they must complete that is topic and course related. The topic is either presented as a PowerPoint presentation or as a written paper, or in both formats. The use of APA style for writing and references are mandatory. Anyway, it is important that you log into your LT newsgroup often to get participation credit by the instructor. The LT must collaborate together to get the paper researched, written and posted for the professor to grade within the time frame established.

Working in an online enironment can make getting a group of people together very difficult. But, if your learning team is motivated and eager, it goes well. If your LT is composed of over-worked people that have extended themselves to much in their personal life and have little time for school, they seldom complete the work on time, which leaves you holding the bag because you don't want your grade to suffer.

Anyway, long story (sorry) .... fortunately, I have only run across one sorry learning team in the entire time I have been with UoP (thankfully). The school is great, the professors are wonderful and there is a lot of online support (new student forums - newsgroups, where you can meet other UoP students and chat, tech support). Its all good. Nice decision and perhaps I will be in one of your classes. I am not sure what my next class is, but will post it here once I find out. I would imagine that you are starting with NUR 390 which is an introductory course. If you give me your email, I will forward you some of the APA guidelines as well as the proficiency study guides .... they really helped me. Good luck and stay in touch. Patrick

I am finishing up one class tonight and start my next UOP course 464 next week any one in it.
