University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

Have any other Spring 2010 applicants gotten an email today? I just got one and it referred to me as an "admitted applicant". I just wanted to know if everyone that applied got this letter or if it means something that they said I was admitted. Its seems a little too early for them to have made a decision.

I received the same email today, but haven't been admitted yet. It seems like they may have sent it out to all applicants.

I received the same email today. I think they have sent it to all 2010 applicants. Nursing Department were not even supposed to get reports of applicants transcripts from admission and record till OCT15th.

Yep, same email here and might I add that my heart is broken.

What are everyone's thoughts on accepting a spot in this last cohort? I am not sure how I feel about this situation. I imagine if something happens and we get behind there will be no way to get caught up. Also, I wonder how this will effect their relationship with Sharp hospitals.

Any thoughts?

Those of us who don't get in the Spring 2010 class, what other programs are you considering? Anyone looked at the Entry Level MSN program at Cal State Fullerton...been thinking about that one too.

Thoughts? Comments?

As a recent alumni I am so sad to hear they are shutting down! All of my friends are as well. I feel horrible for all the faculty as well. This program is especially unique and I'm proud to be a graduate from this program. I am sure they have plan if students need to be held back. I am sure Sharp will understand as well. Sharp is also hurting, as is every hospital and just about every company.

I hope you all get in and you will all become OU San Diego Alumni as well.

Hi everyone,

I am a 3rd semester student and was shocked to hear the sad news. To all of those who applied for Spring and get accepted, TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY PEOLPE and be grateful that you were chosen. It is a rigorous accelerated program that offers students so much nursing knowledge. Good luck~

I also got that e-mail earlier today. I contacted the undergrad adviser and she said it was a mistake. Apparently everyone got that e-mail and they are working on a follow up e-mail to correct the wording on the e-mail that has already been sent out making it sound like the person who received it was already accepted into the program.

Sungrl22,

Thanks for looking into that for us. I figured it was an error, since the deadline for applying only passed 5 days ago. It sounds like those of us that applied to Spring 2010 need to keep our fingers crossed...if we don't make it in we have to look elsewhere. What other programs is everyone considering?

Thanks!

I just got the updated e-mail from (moderator edit of name) stating the previous e-mail was a mistake. It said they will be making the admission decisions in the upcoming weeks.

Here is the updated email that was sent....

"Dear Spring 2010 Applicant,

Please disregard the e-mail sent to you on Thursday, October 8 from XXXXXX on behalf of Dean XXXXX. That e-mail was sent to you in error. At this point, no admissions decisions have been made for the Spring 2010 class.

The application review process for Spring 2010 has not begun. Therefore, your status remains as an applicant for Spring 2010. Admission decisions will be made within the next several weeks.

We want to assure you that the ABSN program will be continued through 2011, allowing time for the admitted Spring 2010 class to complete the 14-month ABSN program."

I guess all we can do it wait...

I spoke to an advisor & ths is what I was told: the ABSN program is not being shut down. It is just that the degree will not be offered by Oklahoma University. They are working with SDSU to open up a similar program for CA. They anticipate no interuption in admissions for subsequent cohorts past Spring '10. However, the wrinkles are still being ironed out in this developement---so that's probaply why it hasn't been announced as of yet....good news for people like me looking to be admitted in the Fall of '10.

Btw, USD has an entry level MSN program.

Thanks for the info Miztee222. I was a little bit concerned because I applied for the spring 2010 cohort but I have one course still in progress (physiology) which I understand makes me less desirable than an applicant with all their courses completed. I wonder when they will make that announcement? At least that's some good news :).

I heard about this! What's going on? I heard its due to the economy...what did they tell the current students?

By the way...my entire class is passing the NCLEX! I haven't heard of anyone failing yet and a lot of people have taken it so far. This says a lot about the education you are receiving...you should be excited! :D

That's awesome!! I'm so excited for all of you!! Yeah, I am very excited about being almost done, only 2.5 more weeks!!! Crazy how fast it flew by. Did you find the ATI predictor to be pretty accurate? I got a 96% on it, and am hoping they're right. haha.

Yeah, just like that email said, the economy. They didn't say if anyone was going to take over the program after OU has left, but assured people who are still continuing their program after the Spring 2010 cohort gets admitted that they will be taken care of. I'm kind of relieved I'm not going to have to deal with that, its so confusing as it is at the end of the semester. :(

Congrats on being done, we'll be joining you all VERY soon! :) Yay!
