is there life after failing nursing school

  1. Hi, I am so down and depressed. I started nursing school in the spring of 2006. i should have graduated in the fall of 2007. Unfortunately, I failed my last semester with a D. I had to sit out a semester b/c there werent enough spaces for the spring of 2008. I attemted my last semester of RN nursing in the fall of 2008 however I was unsuccessful again. I needed 3 more points on my final to pass. since then I have been trying to get back in however there aren't any nursing schools that will except any of my nursing credits even the ones I was successful in. If I want in I have to start from the begining. I found an online nursing school that will except me called Excelsior but I really didn't want to go that route. My questions are does anyone know of anyone who went through similar situation and what they did and does anyone have any advise about excelsior college

Welcome to the site. Many people who are unable to finish nursing school for various reasons go with Excelsior College. It can be a lifesaver to get that nursing degree. If you are going to try to go with EC, like with other schools, you must get involved before your nursing courses are five years old if you are going to try to get credit for them. Keep trying to find a program and go with Excelsior if you can't do otherwise. Good luck with finding a new nursing program that works for you.

I just recently sent my transcripts to ec, they said i would only have to takeinformation literacy plus the essentials of nursing 1,3,4,5,6,7,. I graduated lpn school in 2002. Does this sound right since it has been longer than 5 yrs

Does matter because you have a LPN license. I guess there is a time limit for those trying to get in with 50% completion of a RN program. Your fine in your situation.

Send in your transcripts and see if they will accept you. Excelsior may be the program for you. Its not easy and takes dedication but it is very doable. Keep us posted on what you find out.

Hi, im in a similar situation since i just failed two classes 3rd semester out of 4 so I choose to voluntarily withdraw. Honestly, I really did not want to start over in another program but usually schools won't accept u unless ur in good standing at ur present school and they want documentation from the dean. Some schools will give u credit but they are hard to find. I found two that don't require good standing but after talking to many counselors, I have a better chance of getting in by starting over. I know its time and money wasted, but I think I might as well start over if Im given the option to. My counselor also suggested excelsior and I probably will apply to their school as a back up plan. I really think u should just apply everywhere and see what happens.

Thanks for info and encouragement. I have applied for excelsior and I'v been accepted now I just need to buckle down and enroll and start taking test. Tomorrow I am going to a school for LPN who's going to look at my transcripts and they said thy can possibly accept some of my credits. Wish me luck thir LPN program is new so mayb they will b more willing than older programs
