I can't believe that after 6 years of being on the waiting list at my local college, I am FINALLY going to nursing school! I tried not to get my hopes up, but now I am so excited! I got my acceptance letter 2 days ago, and was afraid to open it. I figured with the large envelope, that I was probably accepted. Now, all I have to do is find out how to get some grants or schlorships. DH and I made a deal that I can do the program if I come up with $10,000 or over in free money. I already have $2000 from my emplyer...so $8000 to go! And I already have my clinical site ready and waiting for me! :balloons:

Dh just rolls his eyes at me because I'm trying to plan how on earth I will do this program with 2 kids at home and 2 jobs! I'm already begging for a laptop computer!LOL

Who else is starting in May? We will all be seeing eachother in MO in Jan 2005! How exciting!

Doin' the happy dance!

Hi MommyNurseSarah,

I also got in for Summer and my GPA was the same as yours and I don't have a degree; I do have over 60 credit hours but no degree. Don't worry about beeing on the wait list because I was placed on it as well since I applied for winter but it was already full I had to wait.

I talked to Erin Kelly at Deaconess and she said that I am 2nd on the wait list for the summer session:) Now I just hope someone has decided that nursing isn't for them or I get accepted into the fall session. Big SIGH..... I'll keep you posted because their decision date is March 30th.....

I hope to get in to Deaconess college fall semester, I have had a hard time getting into nursing school the traditional way. I work 24hrs on and 48 hrs off so it was next to impossible to go to class. I have finished all of my paperwork with DCN and hope to start in the fall.

keep in touch!

Hi Lisa - I'll be starting in May as well, so we'll be fellow students! I also have 2 small kids, but thankfully no job right now!! I'm trying to figure out how to pay for it as well. I hope I can get some scholarship money or something. We are one of those people that make too much for financial aid, but not enough to pay that hefty bill! I need a laptop too. I know my husband would love it b/c he says I'm always in front of the computer - haha! Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Amy - I will be starting my third semester at Deaconess and looking for a clinical site. I live in Louisiana and unable to find a hospital for my clinicals due to State Board of Nursing. Where are you completing your clinicals?? My brother lives in Dallas and maybe I can find a clinical site there.

Appreciate any advice.

Tks

Oh my goodness.....Maybe Deaconess isn't the choice for me. I was considering attending the school as an online student - just about have all of the pre-reqs out of the way. Is it difficult to get clinical sites? I thought that the school arranged the clinicals for the students. Please excuse my ignorance. It's good to get the feedback because I'm a little sceptical about the school - mainly about the clinical part. I live in Michigan and don't know if I'll be able to get a site or not. We're in pretty much a bad financial state at the moment.

No, the school doesn't arrange the clinical experiences, you do. However, you can contact Deaconess because they might already have a clinical contract set up in your area. It's hard to get contracts, but not impossible.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Hi,

I am a student at Deaconess and have a list of all the contracts they have in place for all States. please email me off board and I can send it to you to see if it will help you. I also have some tips for finding clinical sites that may help.

Communication definitely is NOT one of Deaconess' strong points :banghead: but that can be overcome as well if you are persistant and determined, not easily frustrated.
