Capella RN to MSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi all,

I started Capella University's online RN to MSN program 05/2016 and am focusing on nursing education for specialization. I thought I'd post in case anyone is looking for info about Capella's RN to MSN program. Before I enrolled I searched and wasn't able to find a whole lot to answer my questions.

Right now I am in the first of the four bridge classes (MSN5000) and really enjoying it. There are 2 discussion posts due each week and 3 written assignments for this class. I'll see how my other classes are but so far my professor has provided us grading rubrics that are very specific so it is not difficult to get A's on assignments if you follow the rubric. The classes are 10 weeks long and there are a total of 17 classes for the RN to MSN program. I think there are 13 (?) classes for an MSN if you already have a BSN degree. The first course they had me take by itself and next quarter I will be taking the remaining 3 bridge courses since I am currently off work for a few more months. After that I'll prob take 2 courses at a time and I think it'll be doable. The workload definitely is doable, you have to put work into it but if you do what is asked and put in the effort you can get A's. Also they provide TONS of assistance to help us succeed, which is nice. I was told that there is NO group work (HUGE plus!) throughout the program and I haven't heard differently from any of the other Capella students I've talked to.

I was nervous to go back to school since it had been years since I got my ADN and I was jumping right into graduate courses but I am totally impressed by Capella and feel really good about my choice to attend. I know it costs a bit more than some other schools (I'm paying about $22k for my RN to MSN). I like that I don't feel "alone" in front of a computer even though I can log in whenever I want LOL my instructor and fellow students stay in contact with each other through the courseroom which is nice.

Anywhooooo... if anyone has questions that I might be able to answer I'd be happy to. I'll try to keep updating this thread as I go along in my classes too. If anyone else is studying at Capella please chime in!

I just applied for Capella's RN to MSN program to start in January 2017. The anticipation is killing me, so I was just wondering how long it took for you to find out if you were accepted?

I think a week and a half?

Hi BenjaminsMom

How is school going for you so far? I am also interested in obtaining my MSN in Nursing Education. However, I've been researching schools such as Chamberline, Capella, and Sacred Heart University. I have some time before I make my official decision. Knowing your experience will help. Take you and Thank you!

So far I'm liking the program. I'm down to my last class starting January 9th. I plan to do a post masters NP once I'm done. They have been good throughout the program. Professors are very consistent in how they grade and what they want from students.

Hello everyone,

So glad I just found this post. I just graduated with my Associates in Nursing and will be taking boards in Feb. I have already accepted a job in a hospital and am looking at schools for RN-BSN-MSN. My interest for Masters is Leadership/Admin. I will be working as an RN while finishing up my degrees. Now that I have seen the RN-MSN, I am interested in that. Is that only for RNs that have many years experience or do they accept new nurses? I have 22 years business experience in the Medical device field so I am a more "mature" student. Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

As long as you are employed as a nurse with enough credits at some schools like Capella they take you

Specializes in PACU.

I have just started looking at MSN educator programs.

So, I'm curious if you have figured out your 100 hour practicum?

How much support did Capella give you in helping to find one?

Where will you be doing your practicum?

If you found it on your own, was it difficult?

And anything else about what your practicum detailed.

They tell you to look into a place you could see yourself working or would like to

worm so that's what I did. I secured the place I wanted and they said it could take a month to review them and approve the site and preceptor but it only took about a week. It's been a little challenging just because I still have course work to do and I still have to do this and work. But that being said I am learning a lot and my time management skills are also

getting better. They helped in the beginning to

give me guidance because I wasn't studs what or who to ask. Also I couldn't figure out how to do the paperwork to set it all up so they walked me through it which I was greatly appreciative of. I'm on week 8 of 10 come Monday and wait to be done so I can have my MSNand have a break. All in all I'm happy with my experience from this school. I was very nervous and scared coming in just because of the mixed reviews I saw. I I found them to be very helpful with information and clear in what they wanted as well as consistent in curriculum requirements which is good for someone like me. I need that stability í ½í¸…

Have you started? I am currently in this program now.

i finish this Friday. Waiting on my 24 page paper to get graded.

Which was your worst class? I just finished 5007 and 6003, those weren't bad at all. There's a class I saw on my academic plan called advanced financial operations which sounds miserable, I pray I don't have to use excel.

hum... that's a good question. I didn't find any of them hard but very time consuming as I was taking 3-4 classes at a time. I tried to always stay at least a week ahead so I didn't think any classes ended up being hard. The hard part was the first two weeks trying to figure out how the different professors graded. Oh and getting back into the swing of things after my three weeks off each term.
