Nurses have applauded an Industrial Commission order that the State Government provide more nurses to the Launceston General Hospital.
Nurses have taken industrial action over the staffing of the emergency department, complaining of unreasonable workloads.
They accused the State Government of trying to squirm out of an industrial agreement to provide safe staffing.
Today the Tasmanian Industrial Commission ordered the Government to comply with the agreement and provide additional nurses for the department by January 10.
Neroli Ellis from the Australian Nursing Federation has welcomed the end to the four-month-long dispute.
"We have actually lost senior nurses from the department over this period, they just couldn't cope with the workloads," she said.
The federation is yet to receive a response from the Government.
