Nurses 'abandoned' patients, recruiters' lawyer claims

  1. UPDATE) SENTOSA Recruitment Agency, accused of duping 28 Filipino nurses, including the 2004 medical board topnotcher, has filed countercharges against them before the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Sentosa lawyer Ibarra Relamida told the complaints against the nurses are for alleged abandonment of patients and said that these cases and the recent scandal surrounding the nursing board examinations would further damage the reputation of Filipino nurses.

"We have filed a labor case against them in New York for breach of contract and systematic abandonment of patients before the New York State Education Department (NYSED); it is a grave offense in the state of New York," he said in a phone interview.

But one of the nurses, Ed Ilagan, said the NYSED has already "ruled in our favor...It is ironic that while we are winning our cases abroad, dito natatalo (here we're losing)."
