In Allegheny we have very strict TB infection control proceedures that must be followed by every hospital. This includes a TB test at the beginning of employment and one every year there after. If a person is found to be positive payment for treatment is covered by the goverment. I have heard that this sort of public health policy is sadly lacking in other parts of the US. All elderly and disabled person residing in group homes or nursing home are also tested yearly in this area. We have large numbers of immigrants from areas of world where TB is out of control in USA. We need better public health measures to contain it.
