    tennessee medical association physicians have agreed to work with the nursing industry to establish guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios, in the hopes that industry-directed guidelines could head off attempts at mandatory guidelines handed down by the state legislature.

    ...the cost of replacing a burned out nurse or using a temp service has become so high that hospitals are renewing their efforts at retention. herrin says the single biggest issue that drives nurses away is when they are treated like order takers instead of professionals...
