Jury faults Merck for Vioxx

  1. a federal jury in new orleans found today that the giant drug manufacturer merck failed to warn doctors about the medical risks of vioxx, its once-popular prescription painkiller. the jury ruled that the company must pay a retired f.b.i. agent who suffered a heart attack while taking the drug $51 million in damages.

    And I'm sure the reason for the heart attack was SOLEY because of Vioxx, not because he was an FBI agent, or had even one other risk factor, right?

    This should come as no surprise. Teach people that corporations are evil, getting rich while ripping off the little guy, and when they serve on juries they will try to even the score. However, we will need a few more verdicts like this and maybe a bankruptsy or two before we can get tort reform.
