local hospitals are preparing for a nurse shortage, even though most administrators said they haven't been affected.
"if you don't have enough nurses, it definitely affects patient care," said connie jastremski, the chief nursing officer at bassett healthcare in cooperstown. "we need to do better about being vigilant."
margaretville memorial hospital and mountainside nursing home in margaretville are feeling the effects of the shortage.
joseph dipalo, the hospital's chief executive officer, said the organization still needed to fill four full-time-equivalent nursing positions.
