Feds warn to stop Hydroxycut use immediately

  1. At least one death and several cases of liver failure due to this "supplement". I wonder how many deaths it will take before we demand they be tested at least for safety if not effectiveness.

Government health officials warned dieters and body builders Friday to immediately stop using Hydroxycut, a widely sold supplement linked to cases of serious liver damage and at least one death.

Hmm, in addition to the hydroxycitric acid, I'd be looking at how much willow bark these people were ingesting. Hydroxycut has willow bark in it; willow bark is sometimes called "nature's aspirin" because it is first hydrolyzed and then oxidized in the human body, yielding salicylic acid.

I work in a hospital that does a lot of liver transplants, and I have personally seen at least two patients who developed fulminant liver failure after taking Hydroxycut. Both required transplants.

At the time, it was thought that the Hydroxycut use was either just a coincidence or possibly a cause of the liver failure. One patient had liver failure about a week after he started it, the other, about a year. I've been suspicious of it for awhile now.

Well, I know my friend is using the stuff and I spoke to her in class yesterday about it because I remember she recommended me to try the stuff because she lost over 30 pounds using it and is a size 2 now. I never tried it, because it sounded like it was very unsafe but she said that she will NOT stop using it because 23 cases its not alot and she doesn't want to gain the weight back..I find this even more disturbing....yikes...

Avoiding this stuff should be a no-brainer, but people are inherently gullible, I'm afraid.

Well, I guess there was a reason I would ponder getting a bottle of it, then end up passing by it in stores.

If someone takes diet pills, gains the weight back, and tries it use diet pills again to lose the weight, it won't work.Diet pills lose effectiveness after a while. It's better to lose weight the old-fashioned way: move more and eat less.

I agree! I lost a wonderful friend due to her desire to achieve weight loss and the false hopes that diet pills OTC advertise. She believed if she took them it would happen. Well it happened but it also weaked her cardiac, respiratory and immune system. Due to this she was not able to fight off bronchitis and died. Tragic. Left a 4year old. I am in much support!! currentlytx

After I took Phen/fen (or however it was spelled) and lost a ton of weight, felt great and then went through the worry of dying from it, I've been skeptical of diet pills of any type, OTC or prescription. And yes, I gained the weight back. We often assume because something is OTC, it is safe.

i wonder if we will get to stop hearing those crap long commercials for hydroxycut now........

do you have fat that acumulates around your mid-section, butt, and thighs. safe and effective.

To most of us, this seems like common sense (choosing to avoid Hydroxycut). As for the general population, this could be modern day natural selection.

We just admitted a teenager to the hospital. She was using this junk and passed out. Very scary - killing your liver at this age is really bad news.

I've had multiple clients who formerly took Phen-fen tell me that if it came back on the market today, they would take it, regardless of the risks. They said it made losing weight really easy.
