    the american nurses association (ana) has once again joined with the over 35 members of the coalition to prevent dvt in a united effort to raise awareness of this serious medical condition among consumers, healthcare professionals, policy-makers and public health leaders by sponsoring dvt awareness month, a campaign to bring dvt into the public eye on a national and local level, which will once again be held in march, 2005.

    In our rehab facility, 2/3 of the patients are dopplered for DVT at some point. Also I would say at any given time 1/2 to 2/3 are on some sort of blood thinner. The patients that are not have medical conditions that rule out use of blood thinners. Also, close to 90% are on TEDs during the day and SCDs are used a great deal. We are on DVT alert all the time. I might add that Joint Commission and State inspectors are deadly serious about documentation of all of above.
