Baby drop boxes

  1. The second time in 5 months that a baby was dropped off at a baby drop box at a firehouse in Indiana. The Safe Haven box is designed to silently contact 911 when it's opened, and has a heater inside to keep the baby warm.

If it stops babies from being abandoned in unsafe environments, abused, or killed, I'm all for the drop boxes!

I definitely support Safe Haven laws and drop boxes like these. As much as I ALSO support social services that can help someone keep their child if that's what they want, if they've decided that giving up the baby is the best thing, there's little that will stop them. So safe options are important. And...sadly, I've seen a lot of kids in the state system who probably would have been less traumatized in life if they'd been left in a safe drop-box as newborns. Some people are not meant to be parents.
