    that is exactly my point. it is a big business who makes a hefty profit by decreasing overhead expenses such as salaries, maintenance of facilities, etc. there is no excuse for having a 17 year old carpet in your office. it's all about the bottom line and you are a victim of 'corporate' greed. if the profit wasn't there, the school would close in a heartbeat.

    i can take care of just about any icu patient capably. i know the nurses, administrators and docs at my hospital. i sit on hospital committees, have a voice in nursing policies, and stick up for the staff nurse at each and every opportunity. don't accuse me of having no concept of the real world of nursing.

    i understand that there is justifiable frustration among new graduates who can't get jobs, but don't take it out on other nurses. we need to stick together in tough times.
    i am in agreement that we should stick together; but, i have yet to find a good example of how it can be done. many times, it is just appears to be lip service...

    i am sorry. you are just looking at things from a narrow viewpoint. i was talking about the big picture and not that from the perspective of the employee. there is a lot that goes on from the administrations of both institutions that you do not seem to be aware of.

    Here is the truth: Supply and demand. By creating a lot of hype about the "nursing shortage" and wanna be students on waiting lists for schools, you are then flooding the market with new grads who want jobs and have been programmed to believe there are lots of solid jobs available. In the meantime, nurses in existing jobs can be squeezed to stay in bad jobs with too many patients at low pay because they can be replaced by a big available workforce of nurses who want jobs. Self-serving for employers.

    The poster was not speaking about you specifically.

    I have been a nurse for a lot of years. I had instructors in school, and have had many managers who have not done actual pt care in many years and really have no clue. This is a fairly common situation.

    Actually Nursing has been hit by this recession. Nurses are not retiring like they were before the recession because their spouses are loosing their jobs. I live here in Louisiana, New Orleans area and for an LPN its rough finding a job. New Grads RN & LPN are having difficult finding good jobs at this time. Hopefully, this recession will end soon and the economy can pick itself back up with the help of its citizens.
