NEW YORK (Reuters) - Medtronic Inc. said on Monday it voluntarily suspended the sale of a group of heart implant devices, saying the equipment may have contributed to five patient deaths.

Not sure what to think about this....one place I used to work implanted a lot of these devices.

Thanks for posting that. I have a family member who has a Medtronic pacer. I'll follow up.

MINNEAPOLIS - A man who claims he received 47 unneeded jolts from his implanted defibrillator is suing Medtronic over the broken wires the company is recalling.

I think I'd be upset over 47 shocks as well, since I hear they are painful....

Oh, great! They also made the implant I have in my brain for essential tremors. It worked for awhile then quit working!

Shocking! (Sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun). I passed the info on to a friend in my church who has a Medtronic ICD, and it turns out she does have one of the affected leads so she's going to call her EP's office and find out what they recommend (I think what they do is program the ICD to sound an alarm if it detects a lead problem).
