Nursing Majors

Published

Hi my name is Bill and I am new to the site. I am going to nursing school in the spring of next year, right now, I am doing all my prereqs. I plan on getting a 4 year degree in nursing and once I have that moving on to become an M.D. while working p.t.

I mainly trying to figure out the best path to take regarding my nursing degree... Any advice or feedback, thanks!

I admit I'm a little confused---you plan to get a BSN and then become an MD? Aren't there more direct ways of getting a medical degree?

The problem is that I got a GED because of a famiyl hardship. Most of the medical schools I have checked out so far require a four-year degree (which covers most of the prereqs) and I figured I would take the rest while getting a four year degree.

I also thought I could work part time while going to med school which would help significantly with paying the bills. If there is a more direct path I am open to suggestions. Anty ideas?

I know this is a little late in reference to when you posted your original thread, but I'm going to say this now in case anyone looks back at this thread for help. I've considered med school and looked at my school's pre-med program. The pre-requisites for medical school and completion of nursing school are completely different. If you want to be an M.D., your best option is to go to a school that has a 3-4 year pre-medical program and then apply to medical school from there. Hope this helps!

I have to say though that the MD's that were nurses first and then pursued the MD route (in my experience) are EXCELLENT doctors to work with. They truly know patient care on both sides of the fence so to speak. Whatever route you choose, good luck to you....
