Do most lpns start their own ivs in most of the areas of nursing? Does it depend on if your job trains you? What are the new guidelines for what an lpn can hang? I am a fewly new lpn and this ivs and lab draws are new to me.

I think it depends on your state nurse practice act. Here in Indiana, LPN's can start IV's if their facility's policy allows. Over the state line in Ohio, I don't think LPN's are allowed by their state's practice act to start IV's. Some hospitals have IV teams also that start all the IV's, but the hospitals in the Ft. Wayne area are starting to phase out their IV teams.

In Tennessee, I have yet to find anything that an LPN can't do, except be charge nurse. They start IVs, hang blood, do assessments, and IVP.
