Veterans interview

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I currently work as a LPN in the VA hospital in a clinic.. I went to about like 5 interviews for RN positions in the Med Surg department and didnt get it, it is very sad, i feel like they already know who they want to hire and its very sad. When I first was interviewd here i was also in school for my RN, and now that I have my RN with BSN, I am still having a problems finding a job, and its so tough, because I have my RN since December of 2011. and Still work as a LPN. Isnt that sad.

I have another interview set up but sometime next weel I already feel like they are laughing at me inside because they are not giving me a job. :( I currently have a per diem work as a RN for visiting nurse but that is not where I want to stay, I want a hospital position.... So basically working in the VA hospital- I love it, but I want to move up, and the interview process is so nerve wrecking maybe I am not answering enough.

What should is the answer that they want for - explain a situation where you had to deal with an upset patient, and how you handled it?

I have always hated going on the interviews with the VA but I know they can at least be predictable. Three people panel, asking the same questions. So you know what questions are coming up you can prepare for the next time. How do you feel when you go in for the interview, are you confident, selling yourself?

Customer service skills and clinical skills. Talk to your current management about your job title.

Are you asking how you should answer the question of the upset patient?

Surely you've had a nasty patient along the way that you handled well? HOw did you handle it well? Did you not handle it well and learn something from it?

What about the question of when you've given good customer service, surely you've had many of those? I choose the one that has the most meaning to me.

I think there's a thread on here about interview questions... maybe take a look and formulate some outlines in your head for answers

thanks, guys. Yes when i go in there i am so nervous and just feel like I freeze, i dont know why sometimes i dont know where to start because the questions are so tricky and there is not right or wrong asnwer, each one question has like 3 parts to it, and i dont know, i should just really practice a lot for it. I will check out that interview thread.. thanks :)

Just remember that the people that are interviewing you are all humans, and have been exactly where you are. They all put on their pants just like you do. So its ok to stumble a bit, tell them that you would like to go back to a question and continue on to finish the interview. Know your strong points to sell them as well as your weak points and be honest about both. You can't be humble, you have to shine.
