Too many interviews?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am am soon to graduate from an ADN program in May. I have had 3 interviews last week, 1 today, and 4 more scheduled for tomorrow! (one of them tomorrow is a phone interview). These positions are all New Grad Residency positions in various med/surg type settings. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now because I was just offered a position today from one of my interviews last weeks. The recruiter is allowing me to think it over for a couple of days. I would like to see about these jobs tomorrow which is why I'm going to the interviews still, but I don't think I can let the other job wait around too long while I wait to hear back from these newer positions. I know this isn't the worst predicament to be in, however this is all very new to me! Any guidance on what to do going forward would be helpful.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

First, congratulations on getting so many interviews!

How do you feel about this particular job? Is it someplace you'd enjoy working and populated with people with whom you'd like to work? Do you think it's a great opportunity? Do the four interviews tomorrow (that's an awful lot of interviews!) and see how you feel about each of those positions following the interview. If none of them sets your heart on fire, then accept the offer you have. If one of them does set your heart on fire, does an offer seem likely?

If you don't have a family to support or an urgent need to start working immediately, and the offer you have doesn't excite you, you have more leeway to consider other offers. But if you need to start working right away, accept the offer you have, learn everything you can and then move on after you've become competent.
