Need help!! I.T or HM!?

permalink

Hi to all,

Im in the Navy for like a year already and I really loved being here. I just got back from deployment and I felt so lucky to travelled the world at young age. But It was really hard to be away from your family. Anyways, I dont know if I should stay in the NAvy. I'm thinking about becoming a Nurse Informatics when I get out. With the help of the Navy I'm now working to finish all the prerequisites for BSN. Our ship will be in the yard for a year. Hopefully I'll be able to get that done.....

My job in the Navy is a Seaman. And I'm still thinking about this job in the Navy that can give me some experiences when I get out.. Maybe hospital Corpman or Information Technology...

which one do u think is the best????! and which one should I go to?!

The reason why I want to be a Nurse Informatics is because I love working with the computer and at the same time working with the patients. I have done my research about this career. Jobs in this area might include a nurse programmer who writes or modifies programs for use by nurses; nurse communicators who work with other nurses to identify computer system needs, or to assistant in the training and implementation of those systems;

Specializes in Everything except surgery.

I would take an IT position. I did and could not be happier! Good Luck in whatever you chose!

Specializes in cardiac/critical care/ informatics.

Nursing Informatics, usually wants a nurse with med-surg expierence. Also there is no patient care involved in informatics.

Specializes in Everything except surgery.

Correct, but it seemed to me this person had done their research on the possible positions they might like to get involved with.

When they talked about working with patients, I just assumed they were speaking of working with patients as a nurse, maybe during their off duty times, which some nurses do.

Of course you don't have to be nurse to work in IT with a healthcare facility, and "assist in the training and implementation of those systems".

Plus this person could go for a nursing degree and pursue informatics too. Maybe I was just reading into their post.

Specializes in Not too many areas I haven't dipped into.

Nurse informatics? I don't know much about this profession but thanks for tweaking my interest.

nursing is so diverse, and there are so many different opportunities to be had.

Specializes in ED.

sorry to resurrect this thread

im going to nursing informatics too!, but i also want to be part of the navy reserve later. i wanna know if when i get my masters in NI, can i actually apply it to the navy?

Specializes in Informatics, Education, and Oncology.

I'm going to let some else answer this one............I have no clue related to how your civilian degree gets applied to your Navy career but I just wanted to post in honor of this Veterans Day please let us remember that this is the home of the free because of the brave. To all my NI colleagues who also have served and currently serve - MANY THANKS!!!
