Does it Exist? Automating Student Nurses Clinical Rotations Program

Specialties Informatics

Published

I am new to the role of clinical placement coordinator for student nurses. I know I am not the only one in this role that responsible for coordinating the student nurses clinical rotations that is thinking "There has to be a better way". I have searched all over the internet and can't find anything to do what I need to. I can't imagine everyone is doing this manually. Before I reinvent the wheel and attempt to learn programming language myself, does anyone know if there is a program out there that allows us to:

Enter in list of students-block off dates they have didactic (or scheduled absence)

Enter in faculty available-days of the week and times they are available

Enter in the clinical sites available - including days and times they are available

Enter in number of students allowed for each site (i.e. 6, 8, 10, 12)

Enter in rotation length

Then hit "run" and it figures out the schedule, including the groups of students, where they are going, when, and who their instructor will be! Not too much to ask, is it?? LOL

I swear, I'd pay out of pocket to get a program like this.

Thanks in advance!

I have been a database programmer for a long time. If you can send me some specifics - I will see if I can build you something that requires a little less work - no guarantees (and no money changing hands either). Just a genuine offer of potential help.

I need a little more direction (like how long they stay at each site) and probably a host of other questions. I don't think I've been a member long enough to get PMs but I'll bookmark this and keep an eye on it for you. If you can give me a sample set - I'll see what I can do. :) Give me a full example for 3 students and then the number of items we need to set up for each thing....

You are right - its not hard as long as you have the skill set ..... I may not - but I also have a comp sci major that is coming home in 2 days and we may be able to do this together for you. Between us we know at least 10 different languages.

That would be great! Thank you! I am going to write something up So it makes sense. Should I post here or do you have an email?

Maybe you should post it here - I don't want to get booted for trying to help!! If an admin chimes in and tells me I can send my email to you I certainly will - I haven't been around long enough yet to be allowed to use the PM system. I'm taking my pre-reqs now so if I had been through clinicals already it would help me understand better, but a copy of an old schedule that I could see laid out would help (and possibly the info that went into building it). This seems like it will be a fun project - I'm excited to get started!!
