Anyone taken a job through current employer for EPIC implementation?

I am an RN currentlly working in an ONC inpatient unit. I heard about jobs being offered in for an EPIC implementation in our facility with an ONC specialty. The job I applied for was Analyst 1, as I have no former training as an analyst. I was told that there was room for promotion but that the job was offered as salary(so no overtime) and it would be a lateral transfer from my position to this new 'training'. I am being hired by my employer but trained by EPIC. Has anyone taken a similar offer? If so how did it work out? I have been told the hours can be long and it is salary. Does the training gained make up for a significant pay loss once overtime is no longer an option? any info would be helpful.:confused:

I just took a position as an applications coordinator for epic implementation at a different hospital system than the one I currently work for. This new job is sending me for epic certification as part of my training, and from what I understand, once you are epic certified, your earning potential increases significantly. By taking this new job, I'm doubling my salary. (ive been an inpatient rn for 7 years) It probably will include longer hours at times, and for sure, some traveling. But it's worth it to me.

I have signed on for this implement of epic. I will specialize in BEACON for ONC. seems interesting to me! I cannot wait!:D

Some facilities will take staff from the bedside and train them as trainers for the purpose of training their peers, then about a month after the go live, they return to their units. A very common practice in large health care systems and universities. It is possible to transfer from staff nursing to the facility's IT or informatics departments. And yes, getting certified by Epic by your facility will greatly increase your marketability, but can also be associated with an obligation to stay at that facility for x-amount of time or risk reimbursing them for the cost of the certification. Many I have met have left after their initial contracts expired to join the consulting arena.

I would completely agree with BobcatRN. I'm also taking a position as an Application Coordinator for an EPIC implementation & getting certified. It's a great opportunity to get involved in implementation and further your skills in the field of informatics.

I have a phone interview this afternoon for the EPIC Applications Coordinator within my hospital.

Can you folks who have already done this tell me a little about what to expect.

I understand there is a basic skills test and a personality test- which is fine. But a CODING test?

I dont have any coding experience! Is this true?

Hi BobcatRN. I am new to this site. I am so glad I saw your post from 09/30/11. I am in the process of finalizing things and I believe I will receive an offer this week for an Epic Application Coordinator at a large health system. It is very unclear what the difference is between the position I mentioned and the "Epic Application Trainer, or Principal Trainer". Do you know which is better if they offer me a choice? It is unclear which one requires more education and experience, and that is the one I would like to accept. I was shocked when you said they doubled your salary. Its very ambiguous what the offer will be I will receive. I have about 7 years experience with my Bachelor's in Nursing. I am also inpatient nurse. Please share with me what your experience has been since you started in 2011. And if you are happy you made the move. Thanks so much!
