Hi... it's my first time here...I'm glad to know that there is a site like this. I'm a registered nurse for three years and sad to say, I'm still seeking my path. Still hoping that someday I can truly call myself "a nurse". Now, I'm looking forward to have a job in Middle East, as other nurses like me do, but still, because I am lacked of experienced as employed staff nurse. I still find it difficult to get hired. But for myself my experience is enough even though it is as volunteer nurse. So I find other ways, I am now applying to any job that fits me. If I get hired, I'll keep money to enroll myself in Masters degree in Nursing. If I have no place in the hospital maybe i can find myself in front of the students as Professor. May God guide me.

hello everyone...this my first time here..I'm a nurse, registered last 2009..After passing the exams and having my license I actually start to feel fear, for me, my future and for the others that is like me knowing the current situation of the nursing career in our country. So as everyone else are doing. Ive done my volunteer services, done my various trainings and fortunately became a (casual reliever) staff in our local 50 bed capacity hospital for almost a year. Sad to say I have to leave the institution because I am scheduled on a 6 months vacation to visit relatives abroad. I did not have second thoughts to say no, thinking that this might be the opportunity for me to be on a higher ground and this might be the jumpstart for my career. During the time I'm there, with all my necessary documents, I applied for more than 30 institutions including online job postings. My 6 months ended and nothing, so I went home.

Some casual nurses in our local hospital made it a trend that they will go on a vacation or review for an exam for months, come back and work again as a casual nurse without thinking that there are others waiting in line. But not me, coz I respect those who are in a queue to apply as volunteers and hoping to become a casual staff nurse. So now I'm back from the start with the options to volunteer again, seek other career opportunities and path or wait for luck. Believe me Ive done them all. And yes up until now I still feel fear for the same reasons. But who cares, because a good plan is a fruit of a known fear. So every nurse who reads this, who are scared of the future, its alright to be afraid just excellently prepare for it. Now I'm a EMT-d or level 3 paramedic and my next plan is helicopter flight training.

How many months/ years of experience do you have?

When I graduated, I had so many plans. Take the Midwifery exam, get my license, enroll for my Masterals, get all my credentials intact, fly abroad before I'm 23, save til I have enough money, go back home & serve my country. So far, I'm turning 22 & I got 1 right--I got my license in 1 shot:yeah:! That's about it.

So I figured, Plans just make things more complicated. For every year that none of my plans came to life is another year that I disappoint myself, another year I stressed myself out. Which doesn't help anyone, especially myself.

SO my plans as an RN..to have no plans & just go with the flow, until I reach my ultimate goal. No time limits. No stress. Just stay positive & know that everything will work out eventually as it should be.:nurse:

Hello, i thought some of you can help me with my plans. I really don't know where to start. Anyways, heres some information you guys might need. I am a Canadian/Filipino Citizen and graduated from Metropolitan Medical Center last 2010. But i haven't taken the NLE yet because i was doing a non-related nursing part time job last year. Now that I'm finished with that, i was thinking of moving back to Canada and work as a nurse. My Mom and Aunt who work in the Medical Field in Vancouver, Canada, wants me to work as a LPN first. So now i really don't know where to start. Can anyone help me with what to do first? Thanks Bigtime.

Hello there. :)

I just passed the recent dec 2010 nle and so far, I'm still very busy in deciding which path to take. Most of my batchmates who also passed the exam were already busy applying for a slot as a volunteer nurse in the our hospitals here. But personally, I don't want to start volunteering and to first have my trainings. So here goes my plan and I would really much appreciate if you could give me suggestions or opinions that would make my plan more feasible. :)

My To Do List: :nurse:

1. Do the trainings (BLS/ALS, ECG, Disaster & Mngt. and IVT)

2. Enroll for a dialysis training program. (costly :( )

3. Be a member of RENAP.

4. Be a CRN

5. Have at least 1 yr experience as a renal/dialysis nurse.

6. Pass NCLEX/ IELTS

7. Go abroad and earn. :)

8. Pursue having a masters degree.

This is what I am planning so far and I am truly imploring that hopefully someday I can successfully say GOAL MET. :heartbeat

Hello. I'm a December 2010 NLE passer and my plans include the following:

December 2010-February 2011:

1. After taking the board, I entrusted everything in God's care because I believe I already did my part and now it's His time to do the rest. I prayed really hard day and night for Him to give my heart's deepest desire. And so on the 18th of February, God granted my prayer and now I can officially add "RN" at the end of my name.

March-April 2011:

2. Attend in the Oath Taking ceremony and seize the moment.

3. Get my license card

4. Undergo trainings specifically BLS, ECG, ACLS, IVT and attend to at least three seminars related to Cardio-Pulmonary/ER Nursing/Critical Care Nursing/Dialysis Nursing - GOAL MET

May 2011:

5. Do hospital hopping and submit my credentials, it doesn't matter whether they are not hiring as of the moment as long as they accept my resume/credentials. (GOAL MET, I went to 21 hospitals around metro manila but sad to say only 11 accepted my resume, but at least half did, it's better than none at all. As of now, I never received any call from them.)

6. Enroll for training programs either hospital/training institution. At first I planned to enroll in Fabella for their Nurse Training program but since I got an offer as a Dialysis Nurse Trainee for a very affordable price of 3k (2k will be returned at the end the 3-mo. training), without hesitation, I accepted it and I will be starting with my training next week. :)

JUNE-SEPTEMBER 2011:

6. Aside from my dialysis nurse training on weekdays, I will spend weekends in a Lying-in center for completion duty required for the Midwifery board exam.

7. Read my Nursing books before I sleep or during my free time.

8. Take the Nurse Corps exam in Camp Aguinaldo by August 2011.

9. Spend more time reviewing whenever I'm at home or at least before I sleep for the Midwifery board exam which I will take on October 2011.

10. Submit my application for the Midwifery Board Exam.

OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2011:

11. Take the Midwifery board exam. Pray every day and night and let God's will happen.

12. THE POINT OF NO RETURN. By this time I should already have made a decision whether to pursue my nursing career or chase my dream of becoming a doctor.

13. If my choice will take me to Med school then: I will enroll for my lacking units required in my chosen school, my Alma Mater. Review for the NMAT and MCAT. Apply to PLM-College of Medicine and enroll by May 2012.

14. If my choice is to pursue my nursing career then, that's it. I'll wait for calls and updates from time to time.

AND FOR THE COMING YEARS:

15. Graduate from Medical school and take and pass the Physician board exam. Be a Cardiologist/Surgeon/Dermatologist. (if ever I will pursue MED)

16. Get a Masters degree specifically MAN.

17. If I didn't pursue MED then I'll work as a Military Nurse/ER Nurse/ICU Nurse/Dialysis Nurse

18. My last resort: Work abroad. As of now, I don't really have definite plan to work abroad. But if in the future I might feel I should, then i will. And I'll earn a lot of money and experiences.

19. When I'm already financially stable (meaning I don't need to work day and night just to earn enough), I will spend the rest of my days teaching and sharing my experiences to young aspiring nurses in my Alma Mater.

20. I can finally rest myself when I know I'm already through with my life's purpose/mission. :)

That's it. :)

my plans as a rn is just simple.. to enjoy my nursing career to the fullest!

after taking my nle, i helped my parents to run our business for almost a year. the only things that were in front of me that time are calculators, receipts, filed folders, phone, and computer. i asked myself one time, "is this what i really want? to be in line with business? what about the four-year bsn course i took wherein i shed sweat and tears over it?" with that realization i made, i decided to review for toefl and nclex. and after those sleepless nights, i made it in god's grace.

after passing those international exams, obtaining vsc, and finding an employer who petitioned me to work in us, then i started looking for nursing jobs here in phils. it was really tough to look for a job especially if the hospital will know that you are already done with these exams and just waiting for retrogression to lift. but it was not a hindrance to my dreams to be a great nurse to be when i was able to apply in one of the prestige hospitals here in the phils. yepppeeyyy! i was congratulate by the chief nurse after passing their entrance exams and interview to be part of their institution. all i thought everything would be as pleasing to hear as it should be until one day my entrance medical exams appeared that i am reactive to hep c antibody. the employee's physician of that hospital told me i can't pursue working with them coz i am sick. from that moment, i felt that the world is against me. i cried every minute.. every day. mix emotions. i asked god why is he giving me this kind of illness wherein there is no definite cure on this. i was also afraid that everything i went thru --passed all the exams-- would be wasted coz i thought that time, if one gets hepatitis b/c, one is barred in entering us. to cut the long story short, after 7 months of monthly blood testing and eating vegs and fruits only (as for my personal experience), finally, my blood sample is now nonreactive. :saint: thank you lord!!

after almost a year again, i was then ready to apply once again to hospitals. and now, it's getting tougher compared before i started applying work. and finally, i was able to work in a tertiary hospital. during my first weeks in this hospital, we were evaluated by our superiors. according to a senior staff i was able to talk with, i was very lucky to be hired since one of the head nurses of the said hospital insisted not to hire nurses who are already done with us exams and do have pending us petitions. but despite what i've learned from my senior, it doesn't bothered me at all. for as long as i am happy... very happy to apply my knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes to render quality, holistic care for my patients.. patients attached with mechanical ventilator, t-piece, with kaviben+dobutamine drip+dopamine drip+levophed drip, with ngt in placed, with fbc-ub, with pulse oxymeter, with cardiac monitor, with suction machine at bedside... wow!!! i love nursing! very much!

so should i say what a lucky person i am???

as of this time, i am really grateful for the ups and down experiences i went thru. god is good to all of us. if time will come that it's the end of our us dream to work as usrns, i should say that i am still grateful and proud to be a nurse.. a noble profession.

:yeah: clap! clap! clap! thank you for sharing your wonderful and inspiring story. indeed you are blessed. god bless your kind heart. keep the "never-say-die" spirit.

Specializes in Critical Care, Quality Improvement.

hi!

i graduated in one of the top universities in manila with flying colors. like the salutatorian of the batch. passed the board exams in june 2007 with board rating of above 80%. i can say that i am good in communication as well.

at school, my plan is to work at the top hospitals, get my masters degree and then fly to the country of my dreams.

months after passing the board exams and looking for a job, i had no calls. every sunday, i check the newspaper for openings. i cannot take trainings and volunteers due to financial constraints.

until finally, i saw an ad for a job somewhere in the middle east. i got in at that hospital which is the best in that country. after accepting the job and signing the contract, medical city called me for an exam. to avoid confusion, my dad's advice was not to take it.

i left the country in 2008 and worked there for a year. i was assigned at the critical care unit and the training was superior. sadly, i had to leave as they do not provide registration details in practicing as a nurse. in short, i cannot declare my experience when applying to U.S., Canada and U.K.

coming home, i tried my luck here with that experience and my credentials. the situation is still the same- i cannot get in even with my grades and experience. st. luke's even told me they want nurses with experiences from manila hospitals.

i also tried applying for australia and got accepted. however, money was difficult.

for almost one year, i was doing nothing for even volunteer slots were difficult. again, i tried my luck in other hospitals until i was called for a non-nursing job in a hospital. now, i am working as a quality analyst for the medical services.

i am now starting school for my masters degree. if i cannot get to shift to the nursing division, i can teach at my university. but still, my goal is to work and live in australia.

thinking now of making loans to fund my bridging program in australia. still thinking over these things.

over the years, plans are just plans. bad things happen and we have to be prepared for these. a contingency plan will help. we just have to think that everything happens for a reason...
