i forgot, i also enrolled in an online review offered by ncsbn's learning extension website (http://www.learningext.com). i availed of the 3-week online review which costs $49. but was not able to finish it as it was too straining on my eyes..

there are some questions here that i hope "filipinos" who already took it or those who are preparing for it would share an answer...im going to take it in manila the 2nd try, i'l share my 1st time experience for now and il soon post the result of my 2nd attempt and i pray hard that by god's grce il pass it this time
how many questions you had on your exam? first take i had 82, 2nd take i had 75, 3rd take i had 265, and 4th take i had 265 and passed

what did you use as a review material? i used gapuz, saunder's, kaplan and feuer

enrolled in a review center or home study? i did self-study, also tried suzanne's tip

percentage of topics youre very familiar with on the actual nclex questions? can't remember anymore

what did you feel after you finish your exam? on all tests , i thought i failed......

Many states will not license you on your fourth take, most make you go backl to school. US schools are judged on how many students pass the first time.

If the state permits the 4th take, then they will accept the passing results from it. but only a handful permit it.

The majority will not grant permission to test after the third exam without a mandated review program, and some even consider the third exam the end of the line and will not permit one to write the exam again, but they have to attend nursing school again.

yeah you're right most states will make you go back to school, that is if you don't pass the nclex rn for so and so times. but that's not the case here in new york. you can take nclex here in ny no matter how may times until you pass, there's no requirement but to meet certain eligibility so you can be issued another att, wait for another 45 days to retake the exam, and of course you've got to pay another $200 for the exam fee.

Two Questions:

Would you want a nurse who had to take the test so many times to pass?

I have continually had to take tests in my employment, medication tests, speciality tests, ACLS, Board Certifications, chances are if you have trouble with the NCLEX you will have trouble in your career.

Also, if I was inteviewing a candidate for a position and they had to take the test over and over again, I would be concerned with the quality of their nursing education. Or I would be concerned that they could not function under stress. I think I would pass to the next candidate.

i am sorry to say, but you sound way too judgmental. i don't know what you are against with a person having to take the nclex many times. for all you know these persons are the ones who never gave up, who possesses determination and perseverance to get what they want. nclex is not the only thing you need in order to practice nursing, you also need to consider certain values like being humane and patient and caring and other values and virtues that needs to be intact, and these are the things which are not being tested in nclex. candidates in a position will never tell you how many times they took nclex unless they are really open about it, and employers will never know not unless the prospect tells them. it's not only nclex that will determine if a person is fit for the job but also an above average eq, not iq but eq, of which only a few people possess.

i am being open about the fact that i took nclex 4 times before i pass because i want other people not to be discouraged. let's face it, not people pass nclex the first time and its better to take it many times and pass than not to pass at all.

i did home study for 2 months then had final coaching for 10 days

i uttered my prayers, complete relief that i'm over it.. enjoyed my hongkong trip thereafter..

and i passed it on my first take! soli deo gloria!

basically all saunders materials, kaplan, princeton book (i had other review materials given to me by relatives but i wasn't able to use all of it; i only scanned them. e.g. nclex made easy, exam cram, delmar, prioritization and delegation,etc.)

enrolled in a review center or home study?

both. i enrolled in kaplan and i also reviewed during my free time. for my home study, i tried to answer at least100-200questions per day to familiarize myself with answering so many questions. (our reviewer told us to try answering at least 265-300questions per day because during the actual nclex, you don't know if you're going to have the maximum # of questions or not. by getting used to answering 200++ questions per day while you were still reviewing will lessen the stress and feeling of fatigue and being "drained")

i haven't encountered some pharmacology items in the nclex when i was still in school, but thank god i was able to encounter them while answering review questions!!!=) it really pays to answer tons and thousands of questions during the review.

what did you feel after you finish your exam?

right after the exam, i feel confident and happy that i passed. our reviewer told us that if your questions keep getting harder then your on your way to passing. but if the questions keeps getting easier, you have to think twice already.

during the latter part of my nclex, i keep getting the "select all that apply" type of questions one item after another. so i was thinking "this is it!" but when i'm not so sure with my answers in the select all and i know i didn't get it right, the next question would revert to multiple choice, and if i get it right, the next item is select all again...

a week after the exam and until i received the envelope, my confidence started to wane and i started thinking again about my nclex experience. i started to worry that maybe i failed after all... then i received the envelope and i didn't open it first. i prayed a short prayer of thanksgiving. after that, i felt confident again that i passed (the same confidence i felt when right after i finished nclex), and after opening the envelope: i indeed passed!!!:d:d

6 months before nclex - reviewed in merge

1 1/2 months before nclex - self reviewed (had i known about suzanne's plan long before, maybe i would have saved money by not enrolling in a review center and just trying it. but i must admit merge helped me too. however, i realized that self-review is more important. being in a review center is more of a security blanket.)

can't quite say it.. it seems familiar but the choices were somewhat not. very tricky. some questions, you can't easily tell which are the distractors while on others, you could easily eliminate the wrong choices.:uhoh21:

what did you feel after you finish your exam?

i can't tell if i did well or not. a part of me felt that the exam was easy while the other part felt that maybe most of my answers were wrong, that's why the questions seem easy. i don't know. while reviewing for the exam, i prayed for just 75 questions and easy questions. then during the exam, when i was in # 70, i felt that the computer will shut off after #75. so i was trying to retract my prayers and was telling god that i want to answer more than 75 questions if needed to pass the exam. when the computer shut off after #75, i didn't know what to feel. i had mixed emotions - relieved to have finished the exam, happy because i got what i prayed for, scared because the exam felt somewhat easy and most posts here said that it should be getting harder and harder, and anxious because i didn't want to disappoint my loved ones by failing. after 2 agonizing weeks of waiting, praise god! i passed! :yeah: i was so overwhelmed with relief and joy, that i was crying while opening the envelop. i hope everything will fall into place soon not only for me but for everyone here as well. goodluck and godbless! :nurse:
