Is there really a job waiting for us Filipino nurses in the US?

This issue has haunted me ever since I graduated last year. I just passed my NLE this year, took and just passed my IELTS two weeks ago and about to take my NCLEX exam this September. Passing the exam is really no big deal for me as should anyone who has plans of taking the exam as long as you put your mind to it. After passing all the exams and processing for Visa Screening, what now? Can we really be employed by American employers considering the issues US faces with its own nursing graduates? I already have a US tourist visa but that's just it. I don't have any experience whatsoever. I want to know if there are people out there who have the same issue as mine. I've spent soooo much time and money preparing for all these exams. I don't want to waste more of my time, fantasizing about working in the US and ending up not getting hired at all. I don't want to be pessimistic but I don't want to be too optimistic either and end up getting disappointed and depressed about the whole matter. Can anyone here offer me a dose of reality please? I badly need one! Thanks!

I know you wrote this post in a lighthearted, almost self-deprecating manner and you probably aren't really seriously considering doing what you stated. I would just like to warn you that such statements can be taken negatively in this forum especially knowing that coming to the US as a tourist and then seeking a job waiting tables constitute a breach of the limitations of the tourist visa and is illegal. With that said, I know it happens a lot with people coming from all sorts of national origins (hey, I live in San Francisco and I can smell that here from a mile away). I wish you luck in your quest to find work in the US but would advise you that the legal channels are probably your best bet.

i understand. and no i'm not seriously considering what i just said. i apologize.

there's still hope, everyone! :)

Many Tourist nurses try to jump or cut in front of the line of those waiting in the Philippines for their Consular interview.

This hasn't worked for several years due to retrogression

but USA is becoming poorer and poorer by the second. the american dream is a load of crap. forget about it. there are a lot of countries richer than USA

Retrogression and the present state of the US economy is affecting everyone. For those that plan to work here...the wait could be longer than you think. As of the present, no one knows when the economy will get better but on the other hand, most US hospitals need nurses...experienced nurses especially. So my unsolicited advice would be to grab as much experience first(while waiting) before trying to jump the gun and get into the US...and for pete's sake keep your options open to other work possibilites.

did you have your beergoggles on? australian men in general do not treat their women well.....hence when they get in their 40's and 50's they look towards the phillipines because no australian women will be their servant...be real careful with this.

austraian residency cannot beworth living with an australian old crinkly!

@ceridwyn:

so older australian men are evil? but their still yummy right? that's all that matters hehe. btw, are you married/ in a relationship with a filipino?

don't worry...no such thing as same sex ,fiance visas in Australia as there is no same sex marriage, only partner visas and these must be proof of a permanent relationship first of at least 12 months :jester: these are hard to get.

gee, my mother after emigrating in the 1950's recently got her Australian citizenship. Married to an Australian in the late 1950's and is still married quite happily and was asked by the authorities if this was a permanent relationship and was it a marriage of convience,...ha ha hope they are this tuff on everybody else!!:D

peace guys. let's put ourselves in each others shoes before commenting.

anyway, USA is a really powerful country. there's hope so don't let go

Sometimes hope is all you have and sometimes those hopes & dreams are shattered when reality sits in. Nobody can change the situation and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better for anybody attempting to get to the US. Just find an alternative plan and stick with it. You never know you might like the alternative plan. Good Luck to all.
