CABON Now Requires SSN to apply for NCLEX.

Effective on April 26, 2010 California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) will no longer accept applications that do not contain a U.S. Social Security Number. The Nursing Practice Act provides for a unified examination and licensing application. Once an applicant passes the examination, a license is automatically issued. Under these circumstances the BRN cannot accept applications for the examination and licensure without a U.S. social security number.

For those applicants who have failed the exam and want to re-apply; CABON will not accept re-application without U.S Social Security Number.

If your application was sent prior to April 26, 2010 or if you are already eligible, THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU.

CA will not issue a license without a SSN so if you haven't given them your SSN then all you will get is a letter stating you have met requirements.

1. i am quite worried, so i can take the Ca NCLEX even without SSN?? Yes or No

2. but they cannot issued the licensed without giving them SSN??? Yes or No

Check the BRN website but as far as I am aware no SSN means no acceptance of application

I am quite confused with this, i thought that you cannot apply for CA NCLEX RN without ssn? how come cliffordortiz was able to take the exam when she seems to not have ssn? i am on family visa petition and looking to a one to two year time frame with the way the process is going before i can enter US so if I can pass the nclex now i can just provide the BRN with my ssn when i get to the states since a three year time is given to provide ssn..

can i APPLY TO TAKE CA NCLEX without ssn?

because as much as possible i dont want to take initial licensing in other states anymore when i dont intend to work somewhere else other than california coz i think i will be wasting money..

Coz i applied for my ATT before the deadline which is april 2010.

then after that they wont accept any application without ssn.

I am wondering...did you take the CA licensure exam without filling the SSN part?? or you leave it blank in filling the SSN in FORM?? what date did you process your papers for California Application by Licensure or NCLEX?????

i took the nclex last 6th of june without ssn coz i applied for my att before the deadline which is april 2010 and until now i havent got my result yet but kept getting the good pop so hopefully i passed the nclex

thank you for clarifying that, im just gonna take initial licensing with other states then just endorse whn i get to cali boohoo:uhoh3: Good luck on your results, just pray for it..

This effectively stops all PH RNs who aren't legal permanent residents from ever applying to CA for NCLEX. Eliminates a lot of paperwork.

:thankya:

If you passed the exam, you will be given a license but only if you give them an SSN. If however, you got your license already, you cannot renew or extend it without giving them your SSN within a period of 3 years..

I'm afraid you are right, its a waste of money & time to apply at CA-BON, you might want to try other states in the US.

There's overflow of nurses here in CA, esp in the Bay area, were RNs work as CNA already just to have a job.

So this is just one way for them to give priority to the ones who are legally allowed to stay in the US.

Nurses, why don't you try Illinois? I heard from my former instructor that once you pass the NCLEX, they'll be giving you your very own social security number. He passed the NCLEX in January 2011. Another friend also tried that about 4 years ago so even if she is still here in Manila, she was able to renew her US license because of her SSN provided by Illinois. Unfortunately, in my case, I applied in California and even if I had passed the NCLEX, I can't get my license number because of that missing requirement!

can you provide proof of this.... il can not issue ssn only the federal government can do this and for that they need legal proof that you are in the us with a legal work/immigrant visa. the il bon may issue their own number for the license but a ssn can not be issued by the bon

how do i get a number and card?

to apply for a social security number and card:

* complete an application for a social security card (form ss-5); and

* show us original documents or copies certified by the issuing agency proving:

o u.s. citizenship or immigration status [including department of homeland security (dhs) permission to work in the united states];

o age; and

o identity.

Very unlikely that this is true.

BON does not issue SSN, only the US Social Security Administration.

They will ask for proof of your legal stay in the US, work elligibility , age, & identity, you may mail or go to their office in the US. They will mail you if your papers are valid for additional requirements like biometrics/fingerprinting/photo ID. Do not believe what other are saying reg SSN, its a hoax...go visit the website of US Social Security administration...

btw, not all SSN are valid for work, there's 3 types one that is valid for work, one that is valid for work but w/ DHS authorization, and the last is not valid for work. So it does not mean that when you have SSN you may work in the US.
