OK, we've all heard that they are eliminating 100 managerial positions.

We got the OT ban announcement last week, followed by the "part timers should pick up shifts before OT is permitted" (well, duh, that's in the contracts, can't help it if the staffing office failed to follow the rules), followed by the those on OT will be floated off to units within their services that are short.

Who do you think is behind this in the first place? The HEALTH MINISTER! He's doing his level best to cause our health care system to implode so that he can introduce private health care at the individual's expense. Just Google "Alberta Minister of Health" and see what you find.

So if you think that the Health Minister is behind this then what's the obvious solution? I hope that there will be a collective movement to "remove" the obvious problem. oks?

You really don't understand the political climate in North America. Alberta is a Conservative voting province. With a capital C.

Been that way as long as I've lived here. Elect Conservatives, ***** and whine about the slashing in bad times, economic upturn, praise and re-elect the same crew.

The voters here (or lack of them) have only themselves to blame for the mess. And yes, I did vote in the last election but no, I didn't vote Conservative.

Google, like Jan suggests. Look at Alberta politics.

I am not saying that I know the politics their. It was just a mere suggestion from a third person point of view. I am just concerned that's all.

Specializes in med/surg.

Here in Calgary they joke that you could put the bronze stautues near the centre of the city on the ballot paper as the Tory candidates & they would be voted in!:D

Specializes in Acute, Emergency,LTC,Community,Research.

I have been working for CHR for 10 yrs. I have worked casual for 2 yrs.

I recently thought that I would go back since my love for nursing is serving in Acute care but was

told that there is a hiring freeze till 2011 in place. What the heck....

There is a new hospital going up in South Calgary due to open in 2010 and the brainiacs in CHR have decided to put in place a hiring freeze which doesn't even allow casual employees to take a permanent or PT line???

So my question is who didn't think this through?? HOw are you going to open a new hospital up and not hire any nurses??? Are just going to transfer nurses around so we can have a even shortage throughout the city??? SHould we just continue to employ the 70+ yr old RN's to run the show?????

Maybe lets make nursing a masters degree minumum instead of the degree to deal with such shortages.

Specializes in Med/surg. ED. Palliative. Geront.

Clearly the bean counters have private health insurance for themselves and their familes.

If they should get ill then they'll be off to a 5 star hotel/hospital with hot and cold running caviar, roast swan to eat and no nurse shortages...

They'd only ever do this to a healthcare system they've no intention of using...

A but Duckit is an Aussie and only making $500 odd K, a bargain for Stelmach.

We've had Stelmach's relatives on our unit and treated them just like any other patient, despite "my cousin is the Premier" coming out of various mouths.

So, I figure Duckit is a paid hatchet man and Stelmach and his cronies have friend in the insurance biz.
