Nursing Home Clinical

Published

Any advice for nursing home clinicals? A little nervous and I've heard plenty of horror stories.

I am in a BSN program and completed my nursing home clinical last semester and LEARNED so much! My advice is to shadow a tech if you can first, they know all of the skills that you are learning and it will really help to sharpen your skill set. Secondly, don't sit idle. Jump in and help, pass water, make beds, ask questions and see as much as you can. If there is a wound, ask to be around during dressing changes. Don't be afraid of the patients, they are used to nurses and students. Care plans and clinical paperwork can seem scary, but it will all come together, trust me. I know it's all a little scary, but it's a great learning experience! I hope that helps!!

Thank you so much. Shadowing a tech is a great idea.
