the value of certification

certification in any field is a mark of professionalism. for academic nurse educators, it establishes nursing education as a specialty area of practice and creates a means for faculty to demonstrate their expertise in this role. it communicates to students, peers and the academic and health care communities that the highest standards of excellence are being met. by becoming credentialed as a certified nurse educator (cne), you serve as a leader and a role model.

goals of cne certification:

  • distinguish academic nursing education as a specialty area of practice and an advanced practice role within professional nursing.
  • recognize the academic nurse educator’s specialized knowledge, skills and abilities and excellence in practice.

  • demonstrate a commitment to professional development, lifelong learning and nursing education as a career.

I do agree that we should not have to get a masters degree but that looks like the way this program is going. You would think that all our time as nurses would count for something. I also have a med surg certification and a holistic nurse certification. Oh, well, I will just work on getting a ortho certification at some point in the future. As you may have guessed I work at the hospital in Yuma.

Hi there. I'm also studying for the CNE. I attended an NLN sponsored CNE workshop and the book that the speaker referred to as "the Bible" for this exam was Billings & Halstead's Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty. I have to admit, it's extremely helpful.

Good luck on the exam!

Hi I checked the requirements for CNE..it says that I should have atleast 3 years of academic experience. Im a fresh MSN graduate in Nsg Education. Still trying for an academic job. So do I have to wait 3 years????

Hi MONITOR HOSPITAL,

If your masters is in Nursing Education then you need 2 years of full-time experience (or whatever the institution considers full-time) in an academic role. I wish you lots of luck in securing a faculty position. Hopefully, it won't be too difficult- nursing faculty are in demand.

Best,

Doreen

ps- I obtained my CNE on July 31st! :yeah:
