Class on Fluids and Electrolytes

  1. I will be teaching a class to BSN students on fluids and lytes and am looking for an innovative way to accomplish this. I would like to have the students involved as much as possible and do not want to base it all on lecture or Powerpoint. I would truly appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks! :studyowl:

I've only done this a couple of times. First time it went over very well.. second ok but not as smooth, (to many participants I think)

I put together a short play: students played a different electrolyte or fluids or blood cells ect. They had large letter indicating what role they played. Circles &/or lines on the floor indicated cells walls or blood vessels. The students moved in or out based on the script.

You can make it very simple: Na & H2O or complex:acid base balance
It took a good 45 minutes with a group of about 15 students.

If I do it again I might try it as the review.
    Best of Luck!

I think this role play is an excellent idea as it is so difficult to teach this subject. My own recollections alone remind me of this. What an innovative person fgoff is congratulations I hope you don't mind if I steat your idea, I will of course give you credit

I teach F&E, one of the harder classes for 1st semester students. I'm going to try your technique! I'll let you know how this turns out. My lecture starts this Wednesday.
