i hope this is in the right place but for any of you that are EMT's and also nurses/in nursing school,

do you know if our classroom time counts for CE's?, some i hear yes, some i hear no. I want to see if anyone has had any luck.

Thanks in advance:up:

You probably could pull it off but you should discuss it with your EMT employer. As you know, CEs need to be met in specific categories.

That depends on local/state regulation. You need to call the regulatory agency that issues your certification. In CA we have a sweet deal were each semester unit (science classes) is worth 15 CEU's.

I think it was possible in my state, but my nursing school wouldn't allow it.

Just something for later down the road -- I took the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), and was able to receive EMS CEUs for both courses. I contacted my state EMS office, and they gave me a point of contact for evaluation of the hours, and then I had to ask each course coordinator to email the point of contact with course information and to verify my attendance. Worked well. Good luck!

It looks like you are asking if your time in nursing classes can count toward your ConEd requirement as an EMT. It can but I think whether it will depends on the evaluting authority. I live in PA and was able to get credit for my nursing classes but unlike regular CEs, it was a fraction of the actual time involved. So for a total of 41 semester hours of class time and hundreds of hours of clinical time, I got 24 CEUs. Better something than nothing though.

Your local intercommuninty health authority or whomever handles the CE process for health care workers in your locale you should be able to provide an answer to your question.

Depends on your local system - mine does honor either nursing or medical school for both clinical and didactic hours. Check the local rules.

And your nursing school has precisely what say in the matter? You get your transcripts from your school, you submit them to the proper authority when it's time to renew - at what point do they get to say "no"?
