I just completed the Red Cross Nurse Assistant training class and have an interview scheduled for a job in a hospital in the next few weeks. I asked the recruiter what I should do to prepare and she said to "Just know your stuff". I was wondering what kind of "stuff" I need to know? What kind of questions would a nurse as interviewing a nurse assistant?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Congratulations on your up coming interview! I would suggest for your interview some of the basics. Dress appropriately, hair neat, fingersnails clean and not too long. Hair and make-up simple. Questions I think the manager will ask are, How flexible are you? Can you prioritize tasks? Do you work well with people? Are you a team player? The technical skills you were taught in class will improve every day and you will become more confident. Good luck. Keep me posted.

:) Possible questions. 1. Tell me about yourself. 2. Why do you want to be a CNA? 3. Can you work week-ends and night shifts? 4. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? 5. Do you have reliable transportation and/ or reliable child care so you can work? I think question 5 is considered an "illegal" question but some do still ask it. Congratulations and best of luck!

Well I had the first of two interviews today! I am pretty pleased with how it went. The manager was awesome and I liked what she had to say about the floor and the people who work on it. I finished at 11:30 this morning and the recruiter said she would check my references and call me at that point if I were to get an offer. While I was coaching at 4:30 today I received a message from the recruiter to call her but she was leaving at 5PM. I got the message at 5:15 :uhoh3: ! I guess I have to wait till Monday to see what she wanted. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks so much for your input!

That's great! I bet she was calling you to offer you the job. I hope you get it. Keep me informed. Try to relax this weekend, but I know that will be hard. I''ll keep my fingers crossed.

Let's hope so! :) I have tons of stuff to do this weekend to keep my busy so hopefully it will keep my mind off it.

But now I am thinking of the second interview I have next week with another hospital. If I get an offer with hospital one early next week, I may not have time to see what hospital two even offers (if they do). I want to get a job and start working but also feel like I should at least keep my options open till I go to the second interview...

I work as an aide at a hospital now and remeber that one question about prioritizing, as in if 3 nurses ask you to a: walk a patient b: take vital signs or c: help someone toilet, in what order would you do them and why? This is true in this job all the time.

They will help you with any skill issues you have, and you should feel free to say you aren't sure of yourself on things, or that there are things you haven't heard of. CNA training is mostly geared toward nursing homes, and the drains and lines you see in a hospital are not things youre expected to know.

You should also be confident, they need you.

Well...I got offered a part time midnight position on a med-surg floor! I am so excited. I have to go to the physical Thursday morning. I still have an interview with a neuro ICU on Wednesday at another hospital...

Thanks for all the advice and support! 1 down 1 to go :)
