Back 2002 I got my certificate in Phlebotomy while taking Pre-Nursing courses. I did not end up taking the state exam for it because at that time I got pregnant with my first and decided to put school off and got a FT job (not in a medical field). Recently I started my pre-nursing track again and will be applying to nursing schools in the next few months. I also just got my CNA state certification.
My question is should I do anything with my Phlebotomy certificate? Should I go ahead and take the exam and get a state certification? Im not sure if it will help with my future resume or getting a CNA job soon. Or, if its a waste of money? I think you have to have Continuing Ed hours each each if you are not employed as a Phleb Tech.
Anyway, any advice greatly appreciated!

I'd do it! You may get extra points/credit toward your application into school. You could also use it to work and gain experience while in school. Can't hurt since you've already done the hard part!

2002 is a long time ago, will you even be able to take the state exam after so many years? If you can more power to you but they might not let you sit for the exam since the order of draw has changed since you were in school. I don't know where you are from but here in CA state certification only requires 6 hours every two years which is fairly reasonable as far as certifications go. I think it would be beneficial for your resume and gives you options. Good luck!

I think it is a great idea, if they will let you.
Thanks everyone. Bobmo88, I didnt even think about things having changed since then. So, I might have to take a refresher course or something. Im in NC. Six hours sounds about the same as here, Im just not sure if its like the CNA certification where you have to be working for pay in that field to keep it or not. I guess I'll have to do some more research to see if I need to retake the class. Not 100% sure I want to pay that much money again though for something that wont be my main course of study.

Yeah,...10 years out of school. I agree with Bobmo...you need to check to even see if you are eligible to sit for the exam.
Thanks again everyone! I will check and see and update when I find out!
