Tips to Become a Writer/Editor?

  1. Dear Nurse Beth,
What are the top five things you would tell a nurse who wants to become a writer/editor?

Dear Wants to Be a Writer,

Congrats! If you have a passion for writing, there is a market! Here is my story of how I became a nurse writer and went on to write a book.

    1. Decide your niche. This may change in the future, or evolve, but think about what you can speak to- your expertise or passion
    2. Find a tribe. Writing tribes and nurse writing tribes can be found on social media (example, Facebook groups). . Get to know them. Hang out with like-minded nurses who are writers.
    3. Seek opportunities to get published. One of the best ones is here at allnurses. It’s where I started, and they recruit nursewriters
    4. Write regularly. Your skill improves with practice.
    5. Don't give up.

Go the Innovator’s Hub and read the experiences of several successful nurse writers.

    Good luck!

    Best wishes,
