Hi Nurse Beth,

I'm a new Grad Nurse. I got an offer as OR Nurse at a hospital center which the program starts in 3 months. I have accepted the offer but have not signed the contract yet.

I got a part time job as an OR nurse in a different hospital because of my experience as OR surgical tech. I hate the job as an OR nurse.

I'm happy that I got to see what it's like as an OR nurse and I must say I hate it.

I'm very good in clinical area, I have a strong knowledge in medsurg and I love acute care areas.

I really don't want to make the nurse recruiter upset and I want to stay with the hospital center, how can I ask her to see if she can transfer my offer to a different department?

Dear Hates OR,

Congrats on graduating!

You have not signed the contract yet, so this is still only a verbal. You are not bound until you sign a contract. Don't worry about upsetting the nurse recruiter - this is just business as usual for her.

You might want to ask the recruiter if there are any other new grad positions available before you withdraw your acceptance. Is there a possibility you may have no job at That hospital if you don't take the OR position?

Do you feel you've given the part time OR job enough time to see if you might adjust and like it more over time?

Best wishes in your decision,

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth

The OR is a very specific niche. Ask if you can work primarily as a scrub nurse. If not, ask to be considered for a different unit or apply at a different hospital. You don't want to pigeonhole yourself into something you hate.
