Dear Nurse Beth,

My situation is a little weird. I was a nursing student who failed a final exam on the last day on school in my final semester. Due to my not passing the exam, I couldn't graduate with my class. Even though I completed the program, but didn't pass (due to exam grade), am I still able to take the NCLEX?

Simply Frustrated

Dear Failed Final Nursing Exam,

I am so sorry. What happened is probably every student's worst nightmare.

You are not eligible to sit for the NCLEX if you did not successfully graduate from your nursing program. Schools send the list of eligible students to the BON in your state and there's no way around that.

Talk to your school and see if you can come to some arrangement, such as repeating your final course or semester. It's not unheard of.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
