Stephen Colbert recognizes nurses as Heroes

Nurses Rock

Published

Stephen Colbert gave a wonderful shout out to nurses at NYU Hospital on his TV show The Colbert Report on Wednesday October 31, 2012.

I'd like to single out some heroes, okay, like the nurses at NYU hospital. After the hospital generators failed, these nurses carried twenty newborns down nine flights of stairs wall manually operating respirators

This portion of the show is around the 2:00 minute mark of the video.

Stephen Colbert, thanks for the well deserved recognition of these amazing nurses during hurricane Sandy!

But more than anything, thanks to these heroic nurses! Thanks to nurses who do heroic things every shift and everyday!

Stephen, I love you! I watch you and Jon every night. :)

Does any one know what these CEO's were doing while these babies and patient's on life support were being hand carried by nursing and firsrt responders down stair wells? Were the CEO"s hand carrying a patient on life support down any stair well? They do earn the big bucks!!!

When it's all said and done- the CEO will come out and say it's time for more nursing lay offs to help pay for the storm damage to these hopsitals, never looking to their useless selves for a pay cut to make up the lost money.

I have said it before and I say it agein- Of what use ios the CEO in these kinds of disasteous situations- nothing but in the way!!!

I have to say I appreciate your concern, but I work at NYU, and we are treated extremely well. We're a Magnet hospital and I feel that our CEOs actually take pride in it. I and my co-workers are extremely grateful for the speedy response after the generators failed by the EMS crews, and our own administration arranging for other beds for our patients. There will be no layoffs, trust me.

Rock on Stephen and Anderson for shouting us out!

Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!

Wow--Thank you Stephen for recognizing the Nursery nurses.!!! As a fellow Nursery nurse from Sullivans Island, SC who went through Hurricane Hugo, I applaud all of the nurses who would not let "Sandy" defeat them! (while worrying about their own families) Unfortunately alot of people think that nursery nurses just feed and rock babies! We are the proctectors of God's little angels :)

Yahoo!!! I am an NYU grad and LOVE Steven Colbert! Did anyone see the interview w/ Anderson Cooper and the awesome nicu nurse in the purple hat? Loved it!

Good one!

That is true LilyRoseRN. NYU is a very nice place to work.

However just an FYI ... all travel nurse contracts were cancelled as a reult of this.

I am a travel nurse that has been coming back and forth since 2009. Myself and a few other travel nurses are like staff there.... except we are not.

I will miss my co workers.

I'm so sorry your contract was canceled. However, most of us staff are also canceled for the next few weeks while they get the hospital cleaned up and ready again, so I can't say I'm surprised. Staff is being paid even while we wait to go back to work, which is pretty great in my opinion. Hope you can come back to us for another contract when we're up and running again!

Makes me proud to be a nurse............ Thank you Stephen.

And NYU nurses...... you ROCK! Shout out from Cincinnati.
