Nurses Respond to my Titer Question ASAP

The document that I got from the nursing department states

"Show evidence of your rubella titer demonstrating immunity to rubella. If you are not immune, you must receive an additional rubella immunization prior to July 25, 2008 and subsequently be re-tested."

I got a rubella shot May 1986 (1st series) and April 1993 (2nd series). I just took the titer yesterday and results will be in on Monday. Do you think that I will be immune to Rubella? I guess I just don't know how long the vaccine is valid for.

I'm not entirely sure. I only have documented rubella vaccination for myself that I got as a child in the 70's and my rubella titer status was immune. Good luck.

My guess would be that your are immune.....of course, you'll have to wait for your titer results to be sure. You are young enough that you are not in that group of people, born post 1957, many of whom had to have a 2nd vaccine well into adulthood. I had to have a 2nd one in the late 1980's.

Rubella vaccine is intended to be valid for a lifetime.

95% of person typically convert (positive titer) after the 1st vaccination. The 2nd vaccination is intended to cover the remaining 5% that didn't convert after 1 injection.

It just really depends on. I had to have a 3rd MMR done because my mumps titer was low so there is no way to know for sure until the titer comes back.

My sister had two Rubella vaccines and she her last titer showed that she's not immune. She was told it can go either way.

I am immune to both! :yelclap: I was so afraid that I wasn't going to be able to start the nursing program this fall, thank goodness.
