Nurses Recovery

Hi all......I haven't been on here for quite a long time now. I've been trying to get my life back on track. I have been thru soooooo much.......but NOW things are starting to move ahead. I was getting so depressed about hitting a brick wall at every turn. That is so frustrating! But here is where things stand for now:

I now have 13 months clean/sober.

I have paid dearly for my disease and most of the legal issues are behind me.

And the BIG part here is that I found out last week that I am NOT going to lose my nursing license!

This has to be a God thing. That is my only explanation.

I am suspended for awhile and have to jump thru some hoops with the BON, but that is ok. I am so very grateful for the program of recovery, the 12 steps, my sponsor, my support group, and especially to God.

I am thinking my nursing path may go towards working in a drug/alcohol treatment/rehab facility but I've got time before I make that decision.

Just thought I'd let you know what's happening and I'm going to try to be on here more.

Good to see you are posting and thanks for the update. Well done on 13 months clean/sober and I am sure the hoops will be worth jumping through with aim of keeping your license

Wubbzy,

When I read your post, I see a GREAT example of recovery in process !!

I am glad to hear your news, and see that this has lifted a burden off of you.

I cannot disagree that God had a part in all this but it was YOUR hard work, courage, persistance, and much more that lead to where you are today!!

I know that having God in my life gave my recovery a definite path to take and gave me direction and words to help me along the way. I was able to make better choices and learned healthy ways to cope and learned to see life in a more sensible and responsible way. The rewards that resulted were ultimately based on MY actions, choices and decisions, and I think this is true for you as well.

Your journey has been one that many nurses would never have survived ( myself included) and one that very few will ever ( or have already) face.

Criminal charges are not uncommon but I can only recall a handful who were confined behind bars.

I worked in a rehab facility when I was on probation and think that this is a safe and healthy choice for others to consider. You could even work there now as a tech, or some other position that does not require a license but would offer a better chance to find work once you are allowed to return to nursing.

Your words are very encouraging, Exnursie. Thank You. The treatment facility that I was in last year only hire if one in recovery has 2 years. So I've got about 11 months to go before I could work there....even as a tech, or in dietary, or in housekeeping.....anything. I guess I could check out other treatment facilities, tho. I just thought of that...lol.

Congratrs on the recovery! Glad you're back, this forum has turned out to be a great place for additional support. This is the only place that I get support from my actual peers. Like AA/NA, I keep coming back.

We need "experienced" nurses working in the addictions/recovery field. Nothing like putting your experience, strength, and hope to good use.

Congrats on your 13 months. Keep taking it one day at a time!
