Hello so i've seen several post about students complaining about the way they are treated during clinicals or their first few days at work ... My experience with senior nurses so far it's been good , i've gotten several " invites " to go shadow these nurses at the hospital and is been an amazing experience ,my manager a OR Nurse is always giving me books and great advise when it comes to school and things that i should know , she even give me days off before midterms and finals so i can study :). i've had a bad encounter with a senior CRNA once that i approached by talking to her an my manager .. later on she apologized and say "Sorry, we are Nurses right ?" lol . i live in florida and people here have a tendency to be very rude lol so don't take things too deep some if these nurses are probably just having a bad day .
THings that ie learned :
Stay out of their way if you see them rushing
if you don't know something ASK FOR HELP
Offer your help and don't be upset if they say no , they will explain to you later why
if you don't feel comfortable doing something let them know we are all humans right ?
Be polite
SMILE ! even the grumpiest nurse will like that LOL
if you can go the extra mile for the patient please do ( we are the young , new and full of energy ones ) LOL
I hope this helps :)

Little grasshopper, for one so young, you have learned much!!!
Am thinking you'll do well as you go along your way. Good luck!
ETA: Posted this first, then I glanced at you name. Don't know if there's anything oriental there, but Little grasshopper was a reference to the old TV series, Kung Fu. When the lead character was young, he was being mentored by oriental masters who called him, Little Grasshopper. Your observations were very wise and spot-one and SMART for one so young. It was meant affectionately!
hahaha thank you !! i'm cuban with some chinese in my family ! .. i've been in the medical field for 3 years as a medical assistant lol and that helps ! LOL i wish i was young lol i'm 30 . i loved your comment , lmao thank you !!
You're still a young'un.

Great post! I just posted a comment on another post where the OP talked about nurse's eating their young. I am a senior in my nursing program and I agree with everything you have learned so far. It is important to realize that we are adding to their workload. It isn't making it easier on the nurse by having us there. I have heard a lot of students make comments about how the nurse's are lucky because we are there because we are lightening their workload and doing all the hard and dirty work. But that is not true!!! It just adds to their work having us around and in their way. It is important to try and stay out of their way, especially if they look like they are in a hurry. Not to try to act like you know something and try to figure it out on your own...as the old saying goes, the only stupid question asked is the one not asked. I also think it's important to use the computers in the hallways whenever you can, not to sit in the chairs in the nursing station. And if you have to sit in the nurse's station, ask before sitting in a chair and always get up when a nurse/doctor comes along. I also think its very important to answer all alarms and call lights. I hate it when students are standing around doing nothing and an alarm or call light goes off and they don't do anything because it isn't "their patient." Help where you can! If I hate it as much as I do, I'm sure nurses REALLY hate it! I am willing to do anything. I don't think that any job is above me. If a nurse needs something done, I will jump at the opportunity to do it! I find that even the nurse's that seem "grumpy" see your willing to help and work hard and will be willing to show you appreciation in return!
