Like many of us, I am not a rich person and need any help considering any financial assistance out there.....I have heard of some states or organizations who help with schooling and living expenses while attending college......I am an Army Vet - 1975 -1984.......an ex-professional musician who wants a change in his life and help others....while providing myself with a decent employment.......ANY HELP IN THIS WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED....I AM WILLING TO RELOCATE TO ANY STATE, ETC TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN......Does anyone know of any program (besides the usual pell grant, etc) which covers expenses of students for schooling and housing? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.....PHIL from Rock Hill, South Carolina.....:rotfl:

Phil,
Check w your state chapters of the various nurses associations in NC. Most of them will lead you to any state subsidies for nursing education; many states do this.
Also, check out National Health Service Corps. scholarship and/or loan repayment program. They offer either federal nursing ed scholarships or ed loan repayment in exchange for your work in a number of designated, paid, jobs in areas classified as "underserved". Pay & benefits for these jobs are usually the same as other jobs in the vicinity. Search Google for NHSC loan repayment program, etc.. They are easy to find and they publish job vacancies on their web site although you have to dig down a bit to find them. Let me know if you have trouble finding their web site. I believe they will cover 60% of undergraduate nursing education and up to $25,000/yr for graduate nursing education.
Good luck,

You can also go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
This is a free application for federal student loans.

Isn't there a technical school in or around Rock Hill? If so, check this out. It pays the large majority of my tuition.
Good luck!!!

Check at your local hospitals. They usually have scholarships/grants. Some will even pay your way as long as work for them for a certain length of time after getting your degree. Your state may have an incentive program for nursing students. Here in MS, we have a scholarship/loan program that will pay your way as long as you work in MS for a length of time after getting the degree. Also we have a rural health scholarship, which pays if you're willing to work in a major nurse shortage area in the state. Contact your state's financial aid department to get details. As for other scholarships, try
http://aacn.campusrn.com/scholarships/scholarships.asp it has a load of scholarships in alphabetical order, but it's very tedious to search through. Good luck!
Thanks for this excellent information.....I have actually lived in Gulfport Ms for approximately 3 years awhile back ....I was traveling and performing as a musician then along the gulf......ie. gambling boats etc....anyway, I am open to relocating anywhere in order to get the best assistance available....do you know who I can contact there in reference to more information concerning this program you spoke of? Again, thanks much for this info - Thank you...Phil:roll

I take it you didn't sign up for the GI Bill ? If you're a vet, any community college I believe will automatically waive your tuition & fees.
The hard part is getting into a program. Good luck
I'm in the Ocean Springs area, and it's the Ocean Springs/Singing River Hospital System that offers the program where they pay your way if you work for them afterwards. The other Loan/Scholarship program is offered through the MS State Dept of Financial Aid. You can look them up, call them, and ask about the scholarship/loan program.
