Hello, I am currently in a dilemma, and hopefully all you wonderful people can give some advice. I am graduating with my ADN and will be moving to Portland, Oregon to finish my BSN. I have heard it is really hard to get into a nurse residency program up there, especially if you just have your ADN.

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to get a residency, while finishing school....should I just finish my bachelors program which is 3 terms, and then find a nursing job for the best opportunity?  Should I work part time at an outpatient nursing job while finishing school and then apply to a residency program? Should I work as a CNA2 part time while finishing my BSN program so I can have a foot in the door? Too many options, and I'm not sure what the best one is....just that I want to be in a nurse residency program...

Thank you much!

PeaceHealth and Providence will hire new grad nurses with their ADN - especially if you are already enrolled in a BSN program. Working as a CNA at either of these hospital systems will be a huge help in getting into their RN residencies, because you’ll be an internal applicant and if you make a good impression on your manager as a CNA, they may want you back as a RN. I worked as a CNA for PeaceHealth in Vancouver all through nursing school and was accepted into their RN residency with my ADN. Legacy will no longer get hire ADNs, even if you’re an internal applicant. I have really enjoyed PeaceHealth and a couple classmates are at Sacred Heart near Eugene and also love it. A couple other classmates have also really enjoyed Providence - both Portland and St Vincent.
