Hello, I will be graduating from nursing school this spring and I will be moving to the DC area! I was looking at nurse residencies at Reston Hospital Center, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, and StoneSprings Hospital Center. Do any of you work there or have done a nurse residency there? If so how do you like working at the hospital? What are the ups and downs? How much do the residents get paid (DC area is sooo expensive)? Thanks!

Not sure about N. Va. But DC has a few hospitals with residency programs, too. George Washington University Hospital (GWuh), Washington Hospital Center (WHC), and Georgetown. GW is right off of a Metro (but driving/parking is expensive). WHC has decent inexpensive on campus parking (and shuttles to the Metro), Georgetown has shuttles and expensive parking. Not positive, but I think starting is about 28-29/hr. Many of the nurses at these places live in Virginia.
I think all of the residency programs are pretty well structured among them (12 weeks?). Medsurg ratios are usually 4-6:1, critical care 2:1.
Getting your first job out of school may be a challenge, so I'd advise applying to a bunch of places. Use the individual hospital websites to find openings. Try to think of what your goal position is, and maybe you can get a regular position that will help you on your way.
The top menu has a U.S. tab that has state/area specific discussions:

Plus there is a Career section with stuff for first job hunts, etc.

Good luck!
Thank you! This was super helpful!
