Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only requires now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

(This thread is replacing the original thread that was from more than 2 and 1/2 years ago, and has updated information.)

hi... does "any type of temporary work permit" also include working visa? do i still need visa screen for it? i'm not planning to apply as immigrant, just working visa. Thanks... i know this sounds so redundant. I just want to clarify. Thank you very much! Peace!

as a RN it is a GC that you apply for. VSC is a requirement

There are no working visas for nurses, other than the H1-C that we do not recommend at all. And actually you need a VSC in hand for the petition to be submitted for that temporary visa. Not when you go to the US Embassy. Anyone working as a nurse in the US that is getting a visa, must have a Visa Screen Certificate.

Hi Ms. Suzanne.... I have applied for a CES and had just mailed my documents and payment last January. However, the pronouncement of CGFNS that June 2006 passers of the Phil. Board exam states that we have to retake tests 3 and 5. Will my application for a CES be affected??? I have submitted the form for Request for Validation of Registration/License for CES to PRC and I believe they have also sent it to CGFNS.

Will CGFNS accept the Validation for Registration/License from PRC considering that it is a "validation" of the EXISTENCE of the license and registration and not the conformity of the licensure to US standards as their requirement for the Visa Screen Certificate???

Am just worried that even the issuance of a CES Certificate will be affected by the pronouncemet of the CGFNS.

For whatever it is worth, and whatever is the decision of the agencies concerned, I am re-taking Tests 3 and 5 and BE DONE WITH IT. That 2006 Phil Board Exam had already caused too much grief and stress!!!

It will not effect the CES, but it will affect you getting a VSC. You are going to need to retake that exam if you wish to work in the US, the same thing that I have been saying from the very beginning. There are those that listened and already wrote and passed the December exam, and they can go on with everything.

CES does not require that you have a license in your country. The issue is strictly with ICHP and the VSC. CGFNS also will not permit a nurse to write the CGFNS exam if that was required for a specific state where you were going to work either.

I took the cgfns exam last June of 2006 and up to now I still have no certificate. I have received my Visascreen certificate though. I that normal? So should I be calling them up & follow up my CGFNS certification?

Yes, you should follow up on your CGFNS Certificate but many applicants do report that they get their VSC way ahead of the CGFNS certificate even though they applied for the CGFNS Certification way ahead of the VSC.

Question please,

I recently passed NCLEX RN Exam. I plan to initiate Visa Screen application while preparing for my IELTS Exam. Since I applied for Credentials Verification Service for New York, can CGFNS use all my previous documents submitted for CVS? Or would I go back to the same procedure where I had to follow-up my nursing school and licensing authority to send the requirements? Thank you.

You will need to pass that exam, or you will find issue with finding an employer to hire you. And if you prepared properly for the first exam, then there should not be an issue with passing of that exam.

My friend passed the june 2006 NLE in the philippines but because of the controversy he retook the exam last December but unfortunately he failed. But he passed the Nclex in california and an employer promised to hire him. Question: Can he be eligible for visa creen? Thanks.

They can use everything, you just need to send in the application as well as the fee.
