Valid degree?

Hi

I Am a nurse from Ireland, we planning to move to USA soon may be in 6 month time. I have a MSc degree in clinical practice and Registered nurse tutor degree as well from one of the big college in Ireland. Just are these degree valid in USA as well.

The reason why Iam asking is, i want to pursue the Nurse practitioner course in USA and as a career as well. SO if it is valid how should i proceed. I have approx 15 years experience in PICU .

I'm not the most informed person about nursing education around the world, although I try to keep up; is Ireland one of the UK countries that uses a specialist model of nursing education, in which you are specifically trained as an adult nurse, pediatric nurse, or psychiatric nurse? If that's the case, you will have problems getting licensed in the US. The US educates and licenses all RNs as generalists, and you will need to have didactic (classroom/lecture) and supervised clinic hours in adult, obstetrical, pediatric, and psychiatric nursing (as part of your formal education; work experience doesn't count) on your school transcript(s) in order to be eligible for RN licensure in any of the US states. You would need to be licensed as an RN in order to be eligible for graduate nursing programs in the US, unless you are willing to repeat basic nursing education (which is incoroporated into some direct entry MSN programs, which are designed for people with no nursing background and a baccalaureate degree in another discipline).

i Didn't made my self clear in start. I have 4 years nursing degree from India. I did these courses in Ireland from College . I have already cleared my NCLEX in USA 10 years ago with Vermont board. Iam in process of refilling due to retrogression. So the question is will they be valid to pursue further education. I also got Children nursing post degree from Ireland . I hope this make little bit clear.

Well, yes, that's quite a different situation. Again, I'm no expert, but if you managed to obtain Vermont licensure, your previous degrees have been evaluated and must have been determined to be sufficiently equivalent to a US nursing degree. I would think that your best option would be to contact specific schools that interest you and ask them about whether you are eligible for acceptance. Best wishes!
