TOEFL Exam for foreign nursing grads

World Registration

Published

Hi Nurses and Future Nurses! I just want to share my experience with the TOEFL exam I took this 7/13/2013. I am a Filipino who just migrated to the US after my graduation in April 2013. I am applying for a nursing license in WA and TOEFL is one of their requirements.

The State requires a minimum score of 83 and 26 speaking. After learning about this, I got devastated. I am a person who would rather choose Math over speaking in front of the class. But hey, I got a score of 27 for speaking and a total score of 107 in my TOEFL exam.

What I did was follow the tips from Notefull and also watched their videos on youtube. These really helped me a lot! I memorized their formats and used these on my actual exam. I also answered the free reviewers from TOEFL. then practice practice practice practice .. I even asked my self some random questions then answer. Basically, talking to myself and recording (speaking is my weakest point).

Hard work pays off. So for those who are worried about the TOEFL, try to check Notefull. Please share your TOEFL experience here .. or if you need any help, I'll try ;) Good luck, Nurses and Future Nurse!

Hey, Thanks for these tips!

I just passed the NCLEX but I took it for FL state. I am endorsing my license now here in WA (instead of relocating in FL) but

I just found out today that they are requiring me to take TOEFL and have my school submit my transcripts.

Just darn frustrating after all I went through with CALI. >_

anyway, What's notefull? Thanks!

Hi lllenjolll,

I just want to ask if you already took your TOEFL exams for RN endorsement purposes. I think we're on the same boat. I passed my NCLEX-RN in Hawaii but I live here in Everett, WA. I'm currently processing my endorsement and DOH requires me to take TOEFL exam. I don't have concurrency issue with them, at least not that I know.

Correct me if I wrong, that your Speaking section is 23 on your first try, right? Did the DOh accept your TOEFL score even it is not 26 or they ask you for retake?

hope to hear from you, thanks

No. They won't accept any score less than 26 speaking. Actually dohWA just emailed me and want me to take the toefl again to be licensed in WA. They never mentioned any concurrency issue. I believe they're just waiting for me to get the target score, for them to release my license.

I'm planning to take it next month.

Hopefully I'll do really well!!!
