Passed NCLEX-RN in Canada Via Minnesota Board of Nursing & Moving to California

World Registration

Hello Allnurses Community! I found out today that I passed my RN exam. I was born and raised in Canada (Winnipeg) and will be married to a Californian next year. I took the NCLEX-RN exam here in Canada via the Minnesota Board of Nursing. I am now registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. I took the NCLEX-RN to avoid taking it later when I move to California. I understand that when I officially move to California, I will have to register for the California board (via endorsement).

Has anyone had a issue registering for the California board given they got their licence via another state's BON (Minnesota in my case) while living in Canada? I do not intend to live or go to Minnesota for Nursing.

It will take a about three months to endorse to California if everything goes smoothly. Start the process early.

Until you are in the US with a US SSN you can't apply to CA and we have seen Canadian nurses have issues with CA and have to make up hours in some areas. Suggest checking out the Nurse Registration forum

Best way to get accurate information would be to call the CA BON, I'm sure they also have lots of information and FAQ on their webpage as well, good luck!

I am Canadian and endorsed from another state to California. No issues with license endorsement, but I did run into issues with how long they took to process my application and issues with "education deficiencies".

You will need an SSN to apply to California. You can get this by either working in another state first, or through the immigration process after your marriage (this is probably a longer process).

What school did you graduate from in Canada? Thanks for giving me hope that the process isnt TOO TOO bad. I will get my SSN in California after I move.

I graduated from one of the "University of..." schools. And the process of licensing here is long and very frustrating.
